Berger leaves

Grandprix.com

MARCH 7, 2003
Berger leaves immediately
Gerhard Berger has announced that he is stepping down from BMW Motorsport with immediate effect rather than waiting until the end of September when his contract runs out. The Munich company had previously suggested that Berger would stay on for the whole year but it seems that it was decided that a clean break was the best idea."

is he sacked? leaave voluntarily? retire
he has done a respectable job and will he be snapped by by other teams (or Jag ?)

Well he was just interviewed on ITV and he seemed quite happy and quirpy, saying he was going at the end of his contract.

Frankly, I have to believe his role was over. He was the bridge between Williams and a Firm new to F1. The bonds are now four years old and BMW need an engineer to head the program now that it has matured.

Maybe it has something to do with his good mate Barry Sheene, Berger has stated he is going to be spending more time with his family now in Monaco. Seeing whats happening to Bazza might have made him think he needs to see his own family more.
