high contrast should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Brits win the most it's a fact!

Congratulations DC!

Your win in Oz is the 189th grand prix win by a British driver! (next nearest is Brazil with 84)

Britains have also won the most World Championships 12 to Brazil 8.

So why would a team want a driver from anywhere else if they wanna win?

Because recent history tends to be fairly indicative of things in the near future, and germany has its hand on the past decades racing I suppose.

Mark Webber has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
And what or who do class as Brits?
DC = Scot
EI = Irish
so what is a Brit?

The Brits only called them Brits when they win. When they suck like Coulthard at almost every other race they are referred to as a Scot.

Brittain may have had 189 wins, but they also had 154 drivers.
Brazil had 84 wins, but only 27 drivers.
So the average Brazilean (sp?) driver is more than 2 times as succesful than the average Brittain driver.

When looking at the average number of wins per driver, we get:
  1. Finland, 3.57
  2. Austria, 3.15
  3. Brazil, 3.11
  4. Germany, 1.64
  5. Australia, 1.63
  6. Argentina, 1.52
  7. New Zealand, 1.50
  8. Canada, 1.42
  9. Sweden, 1.33
  10. Great Brittain, 1.23
  11. France, 1.20
  12. South Africa, 0.53
  13. Belgium, 0.52
  14. Mexico, 0.50
  15. Italy, 0.42
  16. Columbia, 0.33
  17. Switzerland, 0.32
  18. United States, 0.21

That's because he had a Southern Irish driving licence and in lower formulae your nationality is whatever's on your driving license. Anyway, he's more often called an Ulsterman than a Brit even when he was winning.

Of course my stats don't give you the complete picture either.
For instance, Finland and Austria had just a couple of drivers, so their average score may not mean a lot.
And Brittain does put a lot of effort into motor racing, so there's bound to be a good Brittish driver at any time.

Well on the BBC news the first sentence started "The Brit..." and the second "The Scot..."

IMHO there is nothing in this at all. DC is both a Scot and a Brit.

He went a _long_ time in F1, never scoring a win.

There've not been 150 US drivers in F1, unless you're counting those who were in the Indy 500 when it counted for F1 points.

This is a much propogated myth that people from certain countries/backgrounds WANT to believe is true. In actual fact the reverse is the case. Modrn political correctness here in the UK means that for about ten years now British people from Scotland/Wales/NI are referred to as being from just that - whereas English people are nowadays referred to as Brits. When DC crossed the line today James Allen shouted "David Coulthard from Twynham in SCOTLAND wins the Australian GP", so what you say is the reverse of the truth - very much a foreigner's view of the UK - it's a bit like me wanting to believe all Americans are cowboys for example.

Talking of English success in motorsport, shall we start talking about the number of championships won by Williams, McLaren under Ron Dennis, Ferrari under Ross Brawn, or how about key individuals like Bernie Ecclestone etc. Methinks you wouldn't have much to talk about today if it wasn't for these chaps. And let's not even start on the history of Englsih companies like Lola, Reynard or March in the US.

See my answer to the similarly incorrect post by corkholio above.

Either way no Australian has come close to winning a rce in nearly quarter of a century.

I'm with Lee on the Eddie Cheever thing, I never thought he was hot stuff, despite the fact that we are the same age and he was living the dream I had had for years. Cheever screws up the stats.

Oh, please. The U.S. stats will always be messed up because they are counting Indy 500 drivers from the 1950s as American Formula 1 drivers. When one American driver out of a field of 33 wins a race, that will bring down American wins-per-driver ratio. Cheever doesn't mean anything in this equation. Chris Amon was in Formula 1 for a long time, never won a race, but he did not bring down the New Zealander ratio. Besides, it's wins per driver, not wins per entry.
