Different commentary option

not happy with channel 10's commentary of the clipsal 500 , then turn the sound down and tune into ABC radio who are covering the adelaide race through their excellent Grandstand coverage.

I know that ABC victoria are covering the event and have Will Hagon doing commentary but Im not sure about other states.

so check it out for something a little different , I will turn the sound down and give it a go , usually the ABC give fantastic coverage of sporting events , I listen to the cricket while im at work (dont tell my boss) and its simply superb , so go on if your not happy with Cromley and his mates then try ABC radio

dunno bondy , I was just driving home and turned on the radio in the car to discover they are covering this at all , not sure how their motorsport system works , have to listen to find out I guess

Why can't 10 hire Will Hagon to commentate for them. I mean Mathew White seems to have the coherence of Rex Mossop with his commentary

Crompton and Hagan, together again, sounds good. Get some pit reporters who can ask some decent questions and a host with some knowledge and it might make the thing watchable.

I had a little listen and actually I was dissapointed , I didnt listen for long though but all I heard were boring interviews with people of no real importence and the best pick up lines the grids girls had heard , all fine and dandy when theres no racing on , but during race time its track action I want to hear , so I was rather dissapointed with the ABC commentary , but the on track stuff could have been interesting but I'd turned the radio off by the time they got to it.

( when did this happen) i think he has a carreer in race calling if he wants it!

Aaron did a fantastic job, though can't say that for the other commentators such as Oliver & David Rose who are both bloody hopeless. Oliver referred to Ford Boss "George" Polities, and one of the other commentators asked Barry if the Ford had a 5.4 motor in it. Bloody pathetic if you ask me, and some of these have been doing it for years.

Bring in Hagon to replace White. Even Oastler is better than that no hoper and thats saying alot.

I have to agree Forbesy Matt White might be good for ball sports but leave this to people who know what they are talkin about.

Mark Oastler is sadly missed fulltime.

Oastler is a goose. His commentary is monotonal and HRT-centric.

Surely out there in tv land there is a young reporter with ability that wont get into the blokey in-house junk that #10 dishes up as entertainment... a girl would be a nice step change, not one of those vacuums like on V8x neither

Rust sometimes comes across as having abit of knowledge about it, other times he's as bad as the others.

On Oastler, he has definatly gotten worse over the years (still, i'd much rather him to White, Woods etc..), I was having a look at the end of the 1990 Bathurst 1000, and he is doing a good job.

I don't see why 10 don't make more use of John Smailes, he is good and has a knowledge of all motorsport (i remember when he was 10's 'Indycar expert' in 1996). Why can't they make Crompton the head commentator, and put someone like Smailes, or Allan Moffat in there alongside.

Personally I find Smailes very annoying, and if you listen to most of his interviews, he puts a question forward with his answer, only to be corrected or contradicted by the interviewee

I think the biggest problem some of them make is to try too hard, rather than just chilling a little bit.

White is a goose though.

yeah wilko has been working with Sky for a while now , I dont like him as a commentator but hes not bad at the news

Smailes is terrible at anything he touches.

whats up with Oastler this year , he was on the Konica telecast but has not appeared anywhere else that I know of ???

Dunno I guess everyone has their favorites , but I think most agree that Crompton is right up there so he should be top dog and the others I have no idea about.

I think i read he was concentrating on his magazine and would only do the occasionally broadcast. I'd suppose he is on the Konica's because he wouldn't have to go to the races, just to the TEN studio's during the week to voice over the races.

I think it's a shame Wilko has ended up there, as he for the most part was more on the Sports side of 7, they only really put him on the news originally because they didn't show the cars and the Tennis wasn't on often enough. (particularly car racing, i remember him going to England in 1997 to interview some of the BTCC drivers about the 1000)
