Can Poggiali win it?
Manuel Poggiali has moved up to the 250cc class in 2003 after two successful years in 125cc racing, including a world championship in 2001.
Manuel has joined the Aprilia factory squad for 2003 and has already been setting some scintillating time during testing. Question is, does Manuel have a chance of winning the title in his debut year? He knows the tracks, would be establishing a relationship with team and bike, and he's obviously talented enough to win at the highest level. IMO the guy has a chance of taking the title, but will have some stiff competition from the likes of Toni Elias, Fonsi Nieto and Robbie Rolfo. |

Bah, it's not the same without the factory Honda's...
And Poggiali won't win the championship, he'll win a couple of races but that's it. |

In addition Honda rider Yuki Takahashi (the wildcard who finished 3rd in Motegi last year) is in the wildcard entry for the forthcoming Japanese GP: http://motograndprix.tiscali.com/en/...1&news_id=9837 As for Poggiali - in his first 250cc season it is perhaps too much to expect him to win the title. |

The 250 series isn't as strong as in the past, teams are gravitating towards MotoGP, but I still think it would be too big a task to win it at the first attempt. He should win at least a few races, but my tip is still Robbie Rolfo.

I think he will not be champion this year, but few wins are possible.
Nieto looks like biggest favourite for the championship. |

Although Manuel is a good rider, I confess I'm not convinced yet if he is good enough to win (a WC) in other categories. Not everyone has been able to change and win a second title.
Anyway I wish him the best luck, and I hope this 250cc season will be great to watch. |

A posteriori of the race I'm gladly surprised about the quick adaptation of Poggiali to 250cc. Now, I think he is a proper candidate to this season's WC. Let's see how his season develops.
Congratulations to Manuel for this remarkable win in his first race! |

Yep, he put in a fantastic ride to win on his debut, and he's advanategd further by the widlcards finishing 2-3, meaning than he's got an extra margin over the rivals. He might be abel to put up a real fight if he carries on like that.

Is it not Rossi's old team he is riding for?

Poggiali must now be the title favourite.
The question is looking like turning into something more like; will he merely win the title or will he dominate? |

Well, the first two races have proven Poggiali has come to grips very quickly with the 250cc machine, and reports are he's still not completely comfortable. Hate to see the races when he is comfortable!
