Rubens about 2002 and being stronger in 2003...hmmm
I found this at F1Racing net and, for some reason, after everything that has happened, I consider it interesting.
----------------------------- Brazil's Rubens Barrichello heads back to the scene of the lowest point in his Formula One career this weekend insisting that the 2002 Austrian Grand Prix made him a stronger and better driver. It was at last year's race that Barrichello was ordered by his Ferrari team to pull over and let teammmate and world champion Michael Schumacher inherit the lead so that the German could add the extra points to ensure what would be a fifth world title. "With hindsight, it was a very controversial decision," said Barrichello. "But now, a year later, I prefer to look only at the more positive aspects of that race. I had a brilliant race, pushing right from the start. We all know what happened at the end and in a way, I think it had an impact on the whole history of Formula One. I don't feel it reflected badly on me, in fact I think it strengthened my position and my partnership with Ferrari. It strengthened my and their belief that I can do the job and that I can win races. I do not look back on Austria as a negative thing," the Brazilian said. The team, roundly condemned for the controversial last lap move and booed by fans at the A1-Ring, were later fined 500,000 dollars after Schumacher broke with the post-race podium protocol and switched places with Barrichello in a symbolic effort to promote him as the rightful winner. Barrichello currently lies fourth in the 2003 world championship with 20 points, 12 behind series leader McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen |
