I agree that F2 - is that idea still going ahead? - has a lot of work to do if it is to survive. What about Townsend Bell? Arden seem to be on a roll at the moment.

Since this Formula 2 is only Formula 3000 with a new name, I doubt the 2004 championship is completed. Why did the FIA rename the championship? It's faulty judgement to think that money will be injected into the series by saying, "You see, if Formula 1 is the highest level of motorsport, then the next step down is Formula 2, see?"
F3000 is an obsolete formula. Actually, Formula 1 came back to them. The "3000" is not just a random number to make is sound futuristic, it stands for the engine formula: a V-8 engine with a capacity of 3000 cc. This was a great idea when the category was created in 1985, when F1 was all-turbo and they needed a way to use all the Cosworth DFVs lying around. Today, though, that same engine is not 30-year-old technology, like it was thought. The regulations changed, and now it is a Formula 1-spec engine, albeit one very down on power. Since the minnows can hardly stay afloat, and F3000 teams are working on budgets a fraction of Minardi's, it's no wonder the grids are so thin, and getting progressively smaller. They shouldn't just change the name to Formula 2, they should change the regulations to what Formula 2 really meant in its heyday: a 2-liter, V-6 engine. That's essentially two-thirds of a current F1 engine, and the cost therefore should be likewise. But that's a pipe dream, isn't it? Anyway, in the unlikely case that the 2004 F2 championship goes ahead, my bet is on Liuzzi. |

Well, there are probably only going to be Coloni drivers left anyway. In which case I have to go with Liuzzi too.

F2s 'heyday' was surely with Beemer in-line 4s, in the mid- to late-70s?

Has anyone official put any thought into merging Euro F3000 and International F3000 back together?
It would make sense, with only 16 cars in INternational, and another small grid for Euro - after all Euro/Italian was created because they had too many teams wasn't it? Obviously, to answer the question, depends who's in it! Liuzzi's a good bet, maybe Friesacher if he's still around and gets more consistent, unfortunately Pantano doesn't appear to be going anywhere else, so him as well. Wait til we find out who's gonna be there! |

And according to a story at formula-3000.net, the name change will be in 2005 when they change the cars, engines and rules. |

There was also supposed to be an Italian F2 series for cars which were too old for Euro3000, but despite publishing calendars for last year and this year, I don't think they've actually had any races. |

Everybody knows (from Seinfeld):
The guy who wins gold medal is the best. If you win a silver medal, everybody asks "so who beat you?" If you win the bronze medal, everybody congratulates you for winning a medal at all. Translate the above into Formula 1/2/3 and see why F2 will always fail. |

Sorry i took so long to reply DanFlag, "Why would he be a clown", just look at the results my friend, he is nowhere, i was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt after last years debacle in Champcars but he has been a major let down, okay BW has got a year on him but he has blown him away, and on top of that BW seems to be going for consistency rather than outright speed, how many winners has there been in a weak field of drivers this year, i am sorry but i will say it again, Bell = clown.

make it a multi chassis multi engine series (f3 especially macau gets bloody interesting when the renaults , toyotas and mugen honda's have a little horse power race ) remember the year darren manning won being way quicker on straight line speed |

Come on Jonny, what do you know my friend, i would like nothing more than to see F3000 get back to strength. There is no doubt that the WS has got a far better driver line up this year but 3000 as a series still seems to have that little something extra even though it is doing it`s upmost to implode, so i ask you again Jonny my good man, spill the beans.
