De Cesaris was really accident prone, but he did have a very fragile talent and I think it's unfair to list him there....Marques wasn't great, but he's not awful either, and Capelli was quite good......[]

Best:As I haven't seen many of the older drivers, I've gone by the modern era. So no Fangio or Clark....)
1.Michael Schumacher (What more can I say? The greatest.) 2.Ayrton Senna (What could this guy have achieved if....) 3.Nigel Mansell (I loved this guy and his whingeing.) 4.Alain Prost (Never liked him, but great none-the-less.) 5.Gilles Villeneuve (Great to watch, always gave his all)) 6.Mika Hakkinen (Mika on a hot lap.....awesome.) 7.Keke rosberg (I like him, OK?) 8.Nelson Piquet (He said through gritted teeth....) 9.Damon Hill (Let's just forget '99. And '95.) 10.Niki Lauda (A battler.) And my worst? 1.Jean-Denis Deletraz (Mind blowingly slow...) 2.Taki Inoue (F1's greatest comedy act.) 3.Tarso Marques (Qauli, Melbourne 2001. Oh dear.) 4.Alex Yoong (Unfairly put against Webber and Alonso!) 5.Jan Magnussen (So dissapointing!) 6.Pedro Diniz (Christ on a bike...) 7.Gaston Mazzacane (No Yoong...but no Schuey either. Slow.) 8.Ivan Capelli (...and then he went to Ferrari.....) 9.Giovanna Amati (Proof that women can't.....) 10.Andrea de Cesaris (There goes the spare car as well...) I was tempted to add Trulli to the list but he can at least qualify I suppose..... Last edited by Knowlesy; 28 Jul 2003 at 18:28. |

Oh sod it, here's my greatest list, I can't be bothered to a worst, there are to many!
1. Senna - the greatest of all time, without question. God like on occasion (see his pole lap Monaco '88), he, more than any other driver before or since, had the ability to wow you whilst on track by himself. As a driver no one will come close until the man behind the wheel is put back in control. 2. Clark - natural speed and talent bettered only by Senna. He was the best driver of an era when car control and bravery was what mattered most. 3. Gilles Villeneuve - unparrelled car control and the greatest racer ever. His on track scraps are legendary but best of all they there always clean. 4. Prost - the most second most successful driver in history, but that's had to fight for almost every point (1993 aside). The thinking mans racer, he had the incredible ability to make it look like he was nowhere in contention but then come through and steal victory almost by stealth. 5. Nuvalari - the pre war legend, quicker and more daring than Fangio and raced in a day when one small error meant certain death, astounding. 6. Fangio - the greatest of his day but always had the best car. His impressive stats of 5 WDC crowns are somewhat inflated by todays standards as he only won 24 GP on the way there. Nevertheless he was supremely fast and anyone who achieved what he did during that era deserves a lot of credit. 7. Schumacher - controversial always, quick always. The greatest of his generation but that wasn't hard. It will be a long time before someone beats Schu's records and they alone bring him into the list. The only driver to make the very most of every last element of his job, this above pure abilty (note I didn't say instead of) is what has brought his success. A flawed genious. 8. Mansell - so quick and so raw, his bad luck robbed him of two titles. The second greatest racer of all time, only to Villeneuve, his ovetaking moves are the stuff of legend. He also ran Senna closer than most. 9. Ascari - His name is as synonymous with the early years of the Official World Championship as Fangio. Any driver with the ability to control the cars of the 50's is a great in my eyes but those that were able to consistently win in them really are legends. 10. Moss - the first British hero and a true legend. Raced, and survived, driving some of the most dangerous cars on the most dangerous circuits ever concieved. Shame Fangio was about at the same time really. |

1. Senna, did what many others couldn't do, win and gets poles in cars that shouldnt have been anywhere near the front.
2. Fangio, again, achieved things that bordered on the impossible, ala nurburgring 57 3. Clark, could race practically anything and be quick, another taken in his prime 4. Prost. Im not a huge fan but he was an intelligent racer and I respect that, also multiple champion in a hugely competetive era of F1 history 5. Schumacher, he's good, hes damn good. But hes had more controversy than many other drivers. And F1 these days has less emphasis on drivers than at any other time. 6. Gilles, the hero, the legend 7. Piquet, you don't become a 3 time turbo champion by accident 8. Fittipaldi, couldve achieved so much more had it not been for family loyalty 9. Brabham, another multiple champion that rarely gets the credit he deserves. 10. Lauda/Ascari OK I wanted them both in here OK! |

I think one or two people are confusing worst drivers with the cars they drove, Perry McCarthy is a classic example I have heard a number of people with in the industry rate him as a very talented driver. If Senna, Schumacher, Prost, Mansell et al had been given there only break in the 1992 Andrea Moda I think their names would have replaced Perrys in that list.

Darn - F1 only is it?
Well, in that case... 1. Juan Manuel Fangio 2. Jim Clark 3. Michael Schumacher 4. Stirling Moss 5. Ayrton Senna 6. Jackie Stewart 7. Alain Prost 8. Alberto Ascari 9. Mario Andretti 10. Michele Alboreto There are no "worst" drivers in Formula 1. They are all in the top thirty of their respective generations. Of course, if we were talking Grand Prix drivers then Tazio Nuvolari, Rudolf Caracciola and Bernd Rosemeyer would be instantly near the very top of my list. |

Tuero was good. He was usually faster than Nakano and showed great talent on occasion. He could have been really good if he was actually ready for F1.

Can I leap to the defence of Marques? In his first 2 races he outqualified his team-mate, and in Argentina '96 he lined up 14th on the grid - in a Minardi! 2001 was not good for him though, clearly playing second fiddle to Fernando all year.
