Excellent pictures!!!
Didn't realise that you were there Jeff.... not the best race day ever, but some decent cars. The BOSS cars were so fast round Thruxton. |

Yes Jeff - excellent pictures indeed !!
Thanks Maisie - Jeff got a decent angle coz it doesnt look good from behind anymore - bit of rear-end damage after a recent test at Mallory. I might get to Donnington on the 1st Oct (AMOC) but that depends on a)finding the violent vibration which shakes the whole blinking car over 3000 rpm and b)if the petrol shortage is over !!!! I will also be aiming at Snetterton for the Classic on the 14 + 15 October. |

Superb!
Nice job Jeff, I LOVE the Boss shots! Was the Mod Prod race any good? Did Richard Broadhead race it? I know his wife has recently given birth to their first child so probably not. In the Earl Goddard pic, is the car following Worswick the Minardi that had the bad crash? |

Shame I didn't see you there Rick, could of done with a tinny or two it was so hot.
I may be at Silverstone for the night race, my dad has just rung me to tell me that he has won two VIP passes for it. We'd be guests of the Clio Cup, even get fed Also depends if I've got enough petrol to get there are back ! Lee - Richard was not there but as well as Nick, Lindsay Ward and Fred and Helen were there. Nick and Gerry Cain in his Rover had a good battle for the lead until Nick spun at the chicane; The Minardi before - and after a messy end - |

More cool pictures, excllent..
Minardi was moshed... rear wheel was hanging off as well, we just put it back to where it should be so it didn't look too bad for the driver!!! Sorry to keep missing everyone, I even went round the paddock to look for some Pagid drivers, but that was at 8 am.. a little early perhaps.. |

At least the driver was OK cut hand and a bit shaken more than I can say for the car. Any piccies? The white whale of a Rover was being driven by my friend Richard Lukins. I haven't seen the pile of mashed metal yet as I was off in Spa destroying my own engine. The cut hand was a result of exiting through the windscreen after the car came to a halt. 5 stitches and badly bruised but he's okay. |

Yeap that Rover was abolutely trashed , but Richard has already got another shell ready to swap the working bits into so I think he's ok !!
He also mentioned to me about a 6-hour relay race being organised by the 750mc at Snetterton at the end of October he's hoping too get together and enter a white Rover (or whale ) team(4 cars,6 drivers) , as you so delicately put it, sounds interesting I'll keep all you Rover fans posted if it comes to fruition ! |

The 6 hour race at Snett is The Birkett 6 Hour Relay. Its a handicap race based on engine size/lap times with all types of machinery being entered.
I'm doing it (with another engine ) in a team of Grp1 Touring Cars - class D 1.6's. Should be good fun. Richard has a spare shell for the Rover but I'm not sure that it'll be anywhere near ready for Snetterton. They had another white Rover out at Thruxton which they can use instead I guess. The "whale" reference wasn't supposed to be offensive but it just appears to me that the Sd1's seem to take on the appearance of a semi-guided missile whilst on the track |

Great sounds like a good way to finish the season off and if it's handicapped all the better as it will encourage a much more varied entry , and everyone should be in with a shout for the victory laurels.
Certainly no offence taken on the whale comment , it really is a beast to drive - infact the most tiring car I have ever driven , and it was only for 10 laps , goodness knows how I'll cope doing a 6 hr race (better join a gym!)- I was exhausted , I didnt get out of the car for the whole time we were held in the paddock after the race . |

It's a fine effort to get one of those Rovers on its roof!! Did it demolish the lancia as well??? Thise big cars certainly looked a handful, one of them was moving about sooo much past us and it didn't seem to be going that quickly!! Proper beasts..

I think what happened Dan was that the Lancia had been trying unsuccessfully to get past the Rover for the whole race , they were always close , and on the last lap he lunged up the inside at the first bend but lost it and went into a spin , the Rover saw the spin start and tried to stay out wide but got on the slippery stuff and slid off , the Lancia actually spun to the inside of the track and hit the tyre wall backwards - nowhere near as serious as the Rover's impact. I saw the Lancia from where I was in the Paddock but not the Rover.

Well thanks for the thoughts re the Crash!
I was the driver of the white whale (thanks tin-tin!). slow coach got the story pretty acurate in that I was trying to avoid the Lancia spinning but in going wide, came off the racing (sticky) line and just slid (no spinning or anything else) sideways into the tyres, which flapped me over. We WILL be out for Snetterton with (I hope) 2 cars, in fact may be out for the 1st at Castle Combe, but that may be tight! Very frustrating for the whole team and personally very annoying - next time I may just stick to the racing line and dent whoever spins! :0) That's racing! Cheers |

Welcome, Stripey
It's great to assimilate another real, live driver - especially an SD1 driver. In case you haven't seen my earlier posts, I'm a big Austin/Rover fan and the SD1 is one of my favourite race cars Looking forwrad to meeting you and the car at some point in the future and cheering you on. |

I think I'm right in saying that Stripey runs his Rover in Group 1 and you saw that particular one in its red livery expire in an oily manner at Brands in May.
Perhaps he will correct me on that one. Anyway you should expect to see it at Snetterton in the Group 1 and Classic Thunder races. |

Not sure about this year, but last year the SD1 was run in Classic Thunder. Maybe.

The red SD1 that imploded at Brands wasn't an RKP car (which includes Richard).
RKP have 2 white Rovers and a Red/Yellow striped one. They have campaigned in Grp1, Classic Thunder, Mod Prods, Welsh Drivers, Ace Vehicle Deliveries and just about any other series that will have them |

It's built to Group 1 regs, which means it can run in both. I think they bolt slicks on for CT.

The SD1 that decided to do a good impression of the Exxon Valdis was Chris Bright's.
I ran with RKP in Mod Prods last year, at that time they were sporting 4.0/4.6 engines. Over winter they rebuilt them to 3.5 Grp1 spec. They run std Dunlops for Classic Thunder and the only time I've ever seen them on slicks was at a trackday at Lydden. They broke the diff due to the increased stresses! |
