Attached photo maybe distrubing to some
Removed photo as it is in poor taste - Craig.
It is unforntuate that a accident that causes serious injury or death has to remind us of the dangers of shooting motorsports. No photograph is worth getting hurt or killed for. And remember that equipment can be replaced but not you! I am sorry if the attached photo is upsetting to anyone. This is from Yahoo Sports: Sun Sep 7, 2:36 PM ET Brazilian (news - web sites) photographer Rafael Perreia (R) is thrown into the air as the stock car driven by Gualter Salles crashes into the barrier where Perreia was standing, during the eighth stage of the Brazilian stock car circuit in Campo Grande, some 1,500 kms southwest of Sao Paulo, September 7, 2003. Perreia, a student of journalism who was photographing the race, died in the accident. REUTERS/Marcio Rodrigues/Fotocom.net Last edited by MolsonBoy; 8 Sep 2003 at 15:02. |

Though I may sound distastful, I would like to see the story with picture so that I can see how the track was laid out and how the accident was occuring. |

I am sorry if anyone who saw the image atteached in my first post found the image to be distrubing. It was not meant to shock or upset anyone but to inform us of the dangers of motorsports photography. As noted in the story below, the photographer was in an area were photographers were not permitted.
Rob Here is the story regarding the accident: RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) - A 19-year-old photographer died after he was struck by a stock car in a race on Sunday at the International Autodrome in Campo Grande, 1,200 kilometres west of Rio de Janeiro. Raphael Lima Pereira, a journalism student, was photographing the Brazilian Stock Cars V8 race when a car careened out of control and he was thrown from a bank of tires, where he was taking pictures, police said Monday. He was taken to hospital with unspecified injuries, and died. The car, driven by Gualter Salles, hit the track's first curve following a crash involving several cars shortly after the race started. Salles was unhurt, and chose not to continue the race, which was restarted. Race organizers said Pereira was in an area were photographers were not permitted. Pereira was the third death in the 25-year history of Brazilian stock car racing, and the first victim who was not a driver, according to O Globo newspaper. |

It is terribly tragic, and makes you think about where you are at the track...
I'm not sure how much you can take from them saying the photographer was in an area he wasn't supposed to be. If he was somewhere he wasn't supposed to be, then how did he get there, and why didn't someone do something about it? In my experience, where photographers are allowed and not allowed seems to change almost hourly at most tracks (depending on the guards). My guess is that it's more the organisers trying to cover their hides from the impending lawsuits. It is a terrible tragedy though, and my thoughts are with the family of the photographer. I ended up viewing the second Donington BTCC race from the penultimate hospitality suite at Redgate this last Sunday and was amazed that some photographers actually stood on top of the wall to take shots, albeit just before the corner but knowing how the BTCC guys usually perform at Redgate it seemed rather foolhardy to me
