Carnival time at Combe
The Formula Ford Carnival is rapidly approaching at Castle Combe. Does anyone know if it's overflowing with entries or is it the usual faces + the odd interloper?
Is it being affected by the Walter Hayes trophy at Silverstone in November or are drivers doing the Carnival, the Festival and then Silverstone to end the season on a high?? I noticed on the MST website that there was also an Open Saloon race on the programme can anyone shed any more light on this? This seems to be in addition to the normal Combe saloon race. |

Taken from www.castlecombecircuit.co.uk
Bradford on Avon driver Ed Moore will be looking to bag over a £1,000 in prizes at the Castle Combe Circuit's Melton Concrete Products Formula Ford Carnival, in association with Motorsport News. Moore, who has won the last seven races he has contested, goes into the end of season event as favourite and as such can win £900 in cash if he is able to win his heat, set fastest lap and pole position adns win the final. Also on offer is an entry to the Formula Ford Festival and a set of AVON tyres. The Gloucestershire based Kevin Mills Racing will be running multiple Formula Ford champion John Hutchinson and 2003 Castle Combe champion, Chris Axford. Saltford's Steven Jensen is another local looking to pick up some useful prize money. Having won the last Class B race at the circuit and claiming runner up spot in that part of the championship, the 19 year old will be after the cash on offer specifically for Pre 90 car drivers, as well as a place in the top 10 overall. There is a supporting programme of races to round off the year, including rounds of both the Southern and Northern Zetec Formula Ford Championships. Kevin Mills Racing field two cars in the Southern race, including a Van Diemen RF01 for Yatton Keynell's Rob Sunderland. Even more Formula Ford action comes from the URS Classic Formula Ford 2000 championship and the BRSCC Clubmans Zetec Final, as well as the BRSCC/BARC Classic Formula Ford Championship. Swindon's Roger Newman has his Van Diemen RF80 in the latter. The circuit's own championships for Moonraker Forklifts Special GT and Saloons add variety, with a number of titles up for grabs at the end of a competitive 2003. Three drivers remain in contention for Class C honours in the Special GT championship, namely Paul Naimski, Norman Lackford and Louis Davidson. Holt's Tim Hanlon is still a possible contender for both class and outright honours in the Castle Combe Saloon Car Championship. Although, he has a four point deficit to Bridgwater's Tony Dolley, who leads both class and championship, Hanlon is the man to beat , only two non finishes denying him the title already. However, Class C driver, Arthur Marks, could upset the apple cart as he is just one point behind Dolley in the overall standings. Russ Humphrey, driving Bristolian Mark Wyatt's superb Astra is now only an outside contender for overall honours, despite already having Class A in the bag. Not too much detail, but should be an excellent day out! |

Looks like a good meeting in prospect, Formula ford 2000 has a large field so far, 29 cars on the provisional program. There is also an 'open' race for anything from a 2CV to a Jade Trackstar - should be good!
I belive Barry Baxter will also be back. |

Does anyone know what the entry list is like for this? I'm guessing its very similar to a champ round entry list? It doesnt seem to have the same appeal as a few years ago does it, do you think it will continue? lot of questions isnt it?

smaller entry list I entered on Thursday and 30 cars had signed up. I think it is the usual suspects. An interesting part is they where going to run heat one Post 90 only Heat to pre 90 only but a lot of people complained (I don't think the smaller numbers helped) and it has been put back to normal mixed grid format.
I don't think the fact that it is the carnival is anything special, other than the fact a few friends who I have not raced against much this year are coming out for a race. Other than that its a normal race, but I still enjoy the racing at combe and what is effect a double header (hopefully) comes in at £185 which is good. |

one of my friends watching said it was 50/50 but both had right to be upset, if that makes sense.

first round good - second round good until the esses where my right front upright snapped on the first lap, I had to use the escape road as I had no front brakes, then after that it was tough to drive with a broke upright, but I muddled on trying to keep the car on the track. A great days racing, but dissapointing end.
