Blyton
Ok folks, I've just read the dummy spitting about Blyton Rallycross, and although I've missed out on a direct reply to a few of the comments, there is one that I have to reply to.
With regards to the Joke Marshalling, are we perhaps failing to distinguish between bad, marshals or bad, untrained circuit staff? As one of the Blyton faithful, as both an official and as a marshal, I feel the comments directed at the marshals regarding the removal of stricken cars from the circuit is most unfair. Trying to sympathetically remove a vehicle from a circuit after an incident is often not a easy as you would think, particuarly when the car can be minus wheels, steering, suspension etc, and with hot exhaust, water, brakes, etc. to name a few other hazards. It certainly isn't made any easier when the only recovery on the circuit consists of a 25 year old Bedford Truck of dubious reliability, an Austin Meastro, and a Yokel in a JCB. - Not ideal for an MSA Championship. Consider that as I was signing on as a marshal, on the Saturday, said Yokel needed me to move my car so he could build the circuit... Had it come as a surprise to the circuit staff to find that there was a rallycross meeting on that weekend, so they had to build the circuit at the last minute? Or is the task too big? I have spoken to the developer of Blyton in the past, who stated that he was upset at the way that the BRDA turn up and expect it to be 'just so' without any offer of assistance, or support. Basically the BRDA is run by drivers, for drivers - there are too many vested interests involved, and there are a number of drivers who feel invincible, if they shout loud enough, they get their own way. Thankfully, it appears that with DDMC's involvement things will have the opportunity to improve, what is needed however, is constuctive critisicm. If you feel strongly about the sport, venue etc - get involved, and help sort it out! |

Well it seems you have now woken up BlooBook what took you so long.Thanks. I have spoken to alot of MARSHALS that were there that weekend and alot who were not. The general consensus is Nobody has the right to put marshals down. The marshals that atteneded that meeting and others said it was the best organised meeting they have been to. Despite the the delay with the supercars.

Yes I have to confess, I haven't been on this 'ere forum for a while, but I heard that it might be worth taking a look. I agree that the last meeting was the best organised yet. Refer to my earlier comment on he who shouts loudest regarding the supercar delay.....
Oh, and Ted, Oh yes - awesome weekend!! |

Unfortunately yes - we would have killed either a car or a competitor if we had let it continue..... The track had been laid around four months ago, but with little rainfall it hadn't 'bonded' together, and rutted really badly - not ideal if you were in a Mini! We managed to get a Grader on it on Saturday night though, and had a convoy of vans, range rovers, and a focus trying to compact it so it would run on Sunday....

If the venue is not right then why use it if you turn up without prior notice then surely it is down to the organisors for not contacting the owners of the circuit and not telling them what is required. Shouldnt you provide rescure and recovery vehicles for the event if you dont then are you running it corectly. By not asking for more corectly equiped vehicles you are putting peoples lifes at risk.

I think the point here, is that there is no question of putting lives at risk - if this was the case I can assure you that not a single wheel would have be turned in anger at this venue.

There was an MSA licensed rescue unit at Blyton the other weekend. The same unit that has covererd every MSA sanctioned rallycross at Blyton.
Their role is rescue not recovery. I can not comment on the recovery facilities at this Blyton event. |

I may be wrong but I think Bloobook was refering to the second run of the Pickering showground on last weekends Trackrod rally not Blyton. As Rallyx is not run as stages.
And yes it was one of our units on that stage. |
