Fun Day at Winton on Cup Weekend

I've decided to put this in the Aussie Tourer section as more of us Aussies look in here.

With the cancellation of the Junior VMRC round that was to be held at Winton on the 1st November (Melbourne Cup Weekend) Winton has decide to run a Fun Day on Sunday 2nd of November.

So what's a Fun Day?

As Dean Hutton used to say on the Curiosity Show "I'm glad you asked".

Basically it's a run what you brung track day.

For a small entry fee and some basic safety equipment you can drive your car at speed on the Winton race track.

There are rules and rule 1 is basically if you break any of the other rules you will be warned or shown the front gate.

You will need to ring Winton for details (but give them a couple of days as they only decided to do it officially yesterday) but you will need the following;

A car or a mate with a car,
Fire extinguisher bolted to the inside of the car,
Bonnet tied down,
Hub caps off,
Loose items out of the car,
Ankle to wrist non flamable clothing (no polyester or nylon).
Helmet that is to Aust standards.

There is probably some stuff I've forgot hence the ring Winton for details comment.

Entry will be open to any nut case who turns up and the day will be controlled by experienced officials who have actually told V8Supercar drivers where to go so be warned.

A friendly warning to those of you considering playing. Your car insurance won't cover any damage done to your car, neither will your manufacturers warranty.

It's also a long way to push your car home if something breaks on it. I've seen several people destroy the brakes on their car or blowing clutches, diffs or gearboxes and then trying to workout how to get back to Melbourne.

And remember "Motor Racing is Dangerous".

The event will be held under the AAA umbrella.

They have them here as part of WASCC membership, didn't realise the rules were that strict though...

But by those rules the only I could race is my Dad's old Toyota Hilux!!

I remeber one porsche driver trying to claim insurance with a wack to the wall in his new GT3. He told the insurance company he was just out for a drive around the circuit and the dam thing just turned on him.

I remember track days at Philip Island....people putting into the wall at Siberia then putting the car out on the main road in a ditch claiming they tried to avoid sheep on the road

There was a wrx driver last (or 2 ago) year who had lunched two engines in a short space of time. He had claimed both on warranty. Subaru got wise to what was happening apparently he told them that it only gets highway driving when the vistited he website where he was bragging about his best laptime at Calder just before the engine went.

Eastern Creek use to have these days in the early 90's.$100 all day as many laps as you wanted, what a blast.Marcus, jeans & a long sleeved shirt or jumper use to suffice. You'll have a ball.

Hell no.

He ended up paying costs for both sides in the court case and still had to pay to get his car fixed as well
