Gavin Wills won the first heat, Peter Daly heat 2 and Matthew Rivett heat 3, I think there was a coming together between Rivett and Foster on the first lap resulting in Foster going off, he was pushed out of the gravel and fought back to 7th.

Is it just me or does Mr Rivett always seem to be involved with accidents...?

Rivett pulled off and retired in his semi.Wet final interuppted by two yellow and black sessions, won by Foster, Daly second and Leslie in his Royale RP 24 was third. Wills either retired or fell off a couple of laps from the end. I am sure Ian Sowman will post a full report when he gets home.

Paul
I don't think BRDC are one of the clubs that pay MST to put the results online - although they did for F3/GT meetings this year. JEB might know for certain. |

I suppose the front guys have more to fight for ie more competitive and always run close to each other. |

I guess its pretty uncool for a drivers dad to come on here and start defending them, but as Matt does not have access to the internet at the moment he has asked me to defend his honour, but it looks as though 4thgear has done that already. Many thanks whoever you are..What you say is broadly true, except that Matt anticipated a problem as Joey moved to the right to take his line through Brooklands, and realising that they would both be taken out he chose to brake heavily and attempt to avoid the inevitable. He half spun and unfortunaely tagged Joey's car with his left rear, causing him to spin into the gravel. They were both fine about things a bit later on, as was Don Hardman who called it a typical hard charging racing incident. Redracer, I think you are being rather harsh.Yes, Matt has had some accidents, but name me any front running FF1600 driver who has not. He is known to be a hard competitor, but extremely fair. Ask John Hutchinson, with whom he had many breathtaking battles at Combe. Very hard, but vary fair. Ask Alex Ames, with whom he again has had many hard battles, but with no accidents. The list goes on. The truth of the matter is that if you want to run at the front, and battle at the front then you have to have a reputation as a hard driver, but equally you have to ensure you give the other guy(s) some space, something that Matt learned very early in his career and which he endeavours to
do all the time but which, sadly, some other competitors fail to appreciate. Matt was desperately sorry not to have been able to complete the weekend, but the hole in the block of the engine is big enough to sail the Titanic through.....OK rant over, back to the forum... |

Matts Dad
Just to clarify my own position - my tongue was in my cheek a little bit as I have seen Matt be quick at Combe and elsewhere over the past few years. I saw the accident and my own instinct was racing incident at the time. I'm sure he's got no worse a 'record' than many other drivers! |

Hi Matts Dad,
I was only asking the question. I have not even seen matt drive until this weekend but had heard from the festival that Matt and Gavin like to share each other cockpits!! So when i heard Matt and Joey had a clash I just posed the question to the forum. Isn't that what the forum is for. I did watch matt have a very good semi until the engine problem but he does look like a hard charger. I cant talk as I crashed out of the festival myself (although on my own!!) Regards |

Redracer, quite agree that is what the forum is for, just as Matt has a right of reply. A good debate never harmed anyone, so long as it is fair. And Ian, thanks for the clarification. Case closed, for the moment I suspect!!!!!!!

Mr Rivett is a very fair racer from my experience. (For what it's worth!)
