This relates to Apex motorsport from Norfolk, run by the vastly experienced Richard Lloyd.
Apex was set up to build the Bentley Le Mans cars, and many of the Apex team worked with Joest at Le Mans this year. Through their VAG connection, it seems that Apex are pitching in for the opportunity to run Seat's in the BTCC. |

Interesting that this seems really possible, if not probable! It would be ace to have SEAT doing BTCC, and even if only to bring back a big nanme such as JP!

Apex Motorsport have run Audi 80's in the BTCC in 1980, and also ran Audi's last BTCC entry...so it'd make sense for these chaps to run a VAG programme.
But I thought they were in the running for Audi's maybe BTCC entry in 2005 ??? |

No, it'd be the official SEAT UK entry into the BTCC, that is if they decide to enter the BTCC and not the ETCC, which are still both possibilities.

I guess this is the final nail in the SCV8 coffin. The SCV8's would have worked if the teams had turned away from BTCC but it seems that all the teams have turned to the Alan Gow led BTCC.

Are any names being put forward as candidates for the drives? Depending on the level of SEAT funding, and how 'independant' the team is seen as being, is Plato a possibility?

It looks very likely that, should a team be entered, it will be Huffy and Plato driving. Which sounds very promising! Should liven things up a little... apart from the Muller and Reid incident, and the occasional input from Phil Bennett, the BTCC has become far too sterile and 'PC' - a few more feuds would do it the world of good!

This isn't an independent team, it's the SEAT UK factory team. Apex are one of at least 3 teams who are allegdedly bidding to run the cars. One of the other possibles is Northern South, who run the SEAT Cupra Cup. It will be a replacement for SEAT UK's intended ETCC programme which was being run for Cupra Cup winner Robert Huff and probably Jason Plato. SEAT have never officially confirmed Plato but he has said himself that Huff will be his teammate.

Apparantly he said in a webchat recently that's he'd prefer to be in the ETCC but at the end of the day it's not really his decision.

If Seat do enter, i'd put good money on Plato being their lead driver!

If Seat do BTCC, Plato is contracted as No 1 with Huff as his Team Mate.

I can confirm that: SEAT Uk have two contracted drivers - Plato & Huff. I can also confirm that they have not yet formally decided between ETCC or BTCC (although Huffy's prize was originally for ETCC drive). I can further confirm that they are looking at either running petrol or diesel depending on how the reg's work out. I can further state (but not confirm) that they are talking to at least three organisations about running the cars, including APAX, who have been Audi team partners for eons (formerly known as RLR, among other monikers).
