Lemans TV and attendance info
Would anyone have an idea on where to get worldwide TV ratings-type info and official attendance numbers for this year's and past years 24 Hr race?
I've tried the ACO site and left a few emails but am not sure they can/will respond in a timely manner. Any help greatly appreciated... Thanks |

Ive seen ACO TV data, its useless. Its based on the networks that show Le Mans around the world, but their total availible households, not the households watching. For instance it lists the US as 54mil viewers because thats how many people had, at the time, the Speedvision network. Clearly 54mil werent watching Le Mans, probably even worldwide.

I've got nothing more than you have about the TV ratings ; but the 2003 attendance on the spot was 215 000/220 000 ; same as last year, even a little bit less ; the problem is that french attendance is not as good as it should be, the whole stuff is carriedby the British publlic (80 000 per year in the last years).

But be sure to keep this all in perspective....
215,000 to 220,000 people is the third-largest single-day attendance figure for a motorsports event on the planet....and it is MUCH higher than any single f-1 event.... That's a lot of Gear Heads in one place at one time.... BTW -- the Indy 500 is first (350,000+), and the Brickyard 400 is second (275,000-300,000)...both at IMS.... |

Wasn't the attendance at the Mexico City CART race larger than that? Seems to me it approached 400,000 for the weekend this year.

That was over the 2 days Liz. On race day the Mexico CART race attendance was 220,000 if the commentators got it right.
