Confirmed: Webber In Talks With Williams
Mark Webber has admitted to 'talks' with BMW-Williams.
The Australian, in Melbourne for the GP launch on Wednesday, said he would 'be lying if I stood here and said talks were not happening.' Earlier this week, Juan Pablo Montoya announced his switch, for 2005 - and perhaps even earlier - from Williams to McLaren-Mercedes. And Webber, the 26-year-old Jaguar star, is top of the replacements list. 'I have a [Jaguar] contract until 2005,' Webber said. 'I would say the talks [with Williams] are not serious at the moment.' Is Sir Frank Williams, an admirer of the straight-talking Aussie, 'talking' to his counterparts at Jaguar and Ford about a contract buy-out? 'Not that I'm aware of,' Webber continued. 'But a lot of things happen that you are not really aware of.' Webber said there was 'no driver in the world' who wouldn't swap a mid-field drive in Formula One for a race-winning berth at BMW-Williams. http://www.f1central.net/news/?actio...9af4af4c368c91 Is this the final piece in the "F1 driver jigsaw"? |

I'm hoping it's a "soften the blow" story - may as well change now

Hugh Pessamist, lovely bloke!
It would be good to see, although in this present world of 'it could be anyone' I think I join Inigo Montoya's camp of wanting it to be Fisi. |

I want it to be Jacques, but there you go.
It's not improbable, and in this day and age with contracts meaning nothing, this could lead to DC to Jag, Monty to McL and Webber to Williams for the 2004 season...??? |

well apart from the Jacques bit obviously. It would be grand if everything was fast-forwarded to next season. |

Why wait till 2005? Chuck DC and the musical chairs can happen now.....
Or swap Webber for Schumi Lite... |

A quote from Flavio (from F1-live.com)
"Montoya at McLaren? We all knew about that since four or five months. I would not be surprised if Williams announce very soon a rupture of Montoya's contract. As for the rest, everyone knows..." Now that adds fuel to the fire of the 2004 three way swap... Interestingly, Webber commented ..."but for me I've got to focus on this year". THIS year? Hmmm... I thought this year was almost over. |
