Why has Brights VX been so competitive
Could anyone enlighten me as to how Brights VX has remained
so competitive this season when every AU has struggled to finish inside the top 20. To me this just highlights the obvious disparity between the AU and VX in terms of setup. Sorry for dredging up old subject matter. |

Why wouldn't it be competitive? What differences are there between the VY and the VX? Could it be that Bright's a top driver and his team can put a car together properly?

Its pretty well accepted that the AU was deficient.
Brights car is an ex HRT unit so had the best pedigree to start with. One of the major benefits of the umbrella HMS operation is they can 'loan' engineers to any of the teams, perhaps PWR took advantage of this? The odd thing is Weel started of quite well but has tailed off as Bright has got better. |

Jason Bright is just very, very good.
I have a theory that most of his talent is due to his first name...OK, so its not a great theory, but it suits my purposes |

None of the top ford teams have run an AU this year, they have all been very eager to get a BA program as soon as possible.

Jason Bright is good. (Dunno about the very, very bit.)
His engineer is (was? Not sure if he's still there.) ex-Tommi Makkinen and by all reports a very switched on guy. The car is ex-HRT so it's probably bolted togethor better than most. |

Anyway Brighty is a great driver and could have had a real go at the championship if he and Weel had finished Sandown and Bathurst. |

Me thinks it's the Energy Polarizer that has made all the difference

Judging by Jason's none too subtle dig at Holden at the presentation, it certainly isn't because of bucketfuls of Holden money...
More due to hard work, solid engineering, rapid pitwork and some damn good driving! |

There is plenty of money in that camp, certainly enough to run a car on. How were they expecting to get into VY's when Skaife had first call on them, and Murf had 2nd call on them.
PWR are dreaming if they thought anything different. Its the same as the HMS engine leases being proposed at the moment, to source the VX engine out of SHRT for $x00k per annum... what spec, how far off the top stuff is the first question asked... not the price |

Someone told me the VX has alittle more front down force then the VY or BA does anyone know whether this is true or just another myth?

It is likely correct, as the VY was balanced up front to rear to match the BA Falcon

It's competetive for two reasons:
It's a HRT Commodore The points system kept it artificailly high in the series when Ambrose was doing most of the winning. |

If you ask me, Bright is better off as a number one driver, where he can develop a car to his liking.
I knew he liked his cars to be stiff, but at Eastern Creek I was watching all of the cars braking for turn 1. All of the cars would lean forward at least a little, or sometimes a lot as the front suspension compressed under the braking force. Bright's car language was unaffected and did not really lean forward at all. He was also able to carry a little more speed through that turn. Bright's a high quality driver, and this season has continued that theory. He was great in Aussie open wheelers, then when he first signed on for SBR, then when he went over to the US (he would have had a fulltime Champ Car ride in 2001 if he could come up with the cash), and this season at Team Brock. I just hope he's in a car that can challenge for the championship next year. |

But Bright was as useful at SBR as Dave Besnard was, bending the beast on more occassions that not....

He also had his fair share of good results in '98 and '99 and showed some tremendous speed.
His first two years were far more impressive than Besnard's. |

besnards 2nd year was good (top 10 in points) - then this year he was left out to dry with an uncompetitve au for most of the season as fpr #3 driver
