F3 Scholoship 2004

Seems that for this year, we already have three maybe four confirmed...

Reon: - James Winslow & Mark Johnston
Preformance: - Steve Jelly & Adam Langley Khan?

Steve Jelly making the jump from Schol FF to Schol F3 ? no senior FF charge ? no FRenault ? straight to F3. I didn't think he won the FF chamipionship this year ? he also appeared to have a bit of a temper towards the end of the year. Is F3 the right next step....ah to be part of the Jelson empire.

As far as I'm aware, Mark Johnston hasn't had a season in any major single seater series from regional FF/ZIP upwards and whilst I wish him well, all logic says F3 will be a massive challenge for him.

Jelson is the construction company started (I think) by Stephen Jelley's grandfather many years ago and now owned by his father. A well known company in the East Midlands.

incidently, I didn't mean that to sound as a slur on Steven Jelly - he raced well last year, I just think that from Zetec Junior - not winning it, missing out a championship drive with the "real" front runners, missing out a Frenault year and jumping straight into F3 could be a big mistake. If you have the money and are confident you can do it, it could work.

Without wishing to be too pedantic, can we at least start the season by using the drivers' correct names?

It's Stephen (with a 'ph') Jelley

Reon had a car on display on the Cancer Research Stand, with the names of its two drivers on display.

It's is the ex Robbie Kerr championship winning car, that was later used by Faruiz Fauzy.

Robbie drove a f300.

My information has been confirmed from two independent sources, with very close knowlege of the actual car.

Wrong again In 2002 there was a new dallara so the older cars from 1999-2001 went to scholarship cars Robbie Kerr won in 2001 so that was a F398 or a F397 same tub new update kit.

It's interesting that you are directly contradicting information provided by FGR and Reon motorsport.

Also the MST timesheets for that season state the car was an F300.

I will check what the actual chasis number of both the fgr cars was later today.

Robbie Kerr car was a F397 dallara ex promatecme Chassis
Faruiz Fauzy car Was A F301 and he had two tubs that year because of a shunt at brands hatch the tub was then from Duma racing Ex Jamie Spence And In your last statement what chassis where the class A cars on MST? also Dallara Chassis numbers are numbered my Year IE: F301 is 2001, F300 is 2000
F398 is 1998 and so on.

Robbie Kerr, to my knowledge, never drove a 99-01 spec car. He was in scholarship in 01 so that'd have been the 96/98 car, and he was overall champ in 02 so that'd have been the 02/04 variant He skipped a generation so to speak. Just like anyone who does Scholarship this year, and Class A in 05, will never have driven the current Class A car.

I admit I was mistaken, Robbie did drive a F398.

It's a shame that FGR no longer seem to be in F3, they are the only team to have won the scholorship/Class B championship 3 times.

Incidentally, there is lots more information on Mark Johnston's official website at www.markjohnston.tk. I think the Reon car looks fantastic, though it would be nice to see fewer yellow and white cars on the grid...,

I also notice that Mark's website appears to be run by our old friend RacingDick! Haven't heard a lot from him recently - for shame - he takes a nice snap.

Nice to see Scholarship picking up some decent numbers! 5 cars confirmed already as I see FPA champ Ryan Lewis is confirmed with T-Sport for the class today! Not too sure about the quality in the class, of the five drivers confirmed so far they're all either pretty inexperienced or haven't exactly set the world on fire so far, could be interesting though!

Why does Ryan Lewis have a Williams-style livery? He had the same in FPA and I didn't understand it then either.

what does it matter how any car is painted? Surely paint the car how you like or in keeping with a sponsors theme.

Interesting indeed, Gaz, and there seems to be more in the pipeline..., Good to see two whole new teams in Reon and Mango too, plus some teams (ADR and P1) with fingers in both class pies. Your concerns about quality are interesting... isn't the very idea of the scholarship class to allow "kids" with little experience the chance to prove themselves. I'm often surprised at just how much experience some of these folks have - Ryan Lewis and Mark Johnston for example - while some people with apparently less experience (e.g. a certain Scottish 2003 F3 rookie who you're rather fond of dissing!) jump straight in at the deep end. I guess it's all down to cash again...

Yeh, no what your saying mathias! it just seems some of these scholars are very inexperienced! I'm taking Kumar, Johnston, Wilmslow. They're names you haven't heard before and they're drivers who haven't had much experience in lower formulae such as Ford or Renault. A lot of unknown quantities which could spring a surprise or 2 and liven things up!

I'm not out to diss that certain Scot! I just don't rate him much! I'm all for being proved wrong tho so role on Donington Park!
