The Tobacco Advertising Settlement allows Tobacco companies to sponsor only one team per year within the U.S. As Team Penske in CART is sponsored by Marlboro, Ferrari were not able to display Marlboro livery, and ran with white backgrounds. As for the tyre temp device, many teams use hand-held infrared temperature sensors. I would imagine fitting one sensor per tyre, fixed to the car and hooked into the telemetry, would be no problem for Ferrari. |

Infared tire sensors have been is use for many years. My first experience with them was in '88, helping Goodyear identify why NASCAR tire were suddenly having problems.
In that particular case, we had, with Alcon, developed a vastly superior brake system for those cars ( based on Alcon't boggest GTP car brakes) that was raising the tire temps under braking to levels far beyond what the old brake systems had done before. |

Another question: could the same sensor be used to calculate the wheels rotation speed?
