Ecclestone on V8s:
I plucked this from an interview with BE: it made me laugh...
----------- Q: When you’re in Melbourne, do you watch the V8 Supercars? Do you have any interest in them? BE: No. Q: Not at all? BE: I don’t watch them, and I don’t have any interest. Q: Not even for the rumble and the roar? BE: No. ----------------------- What can be drawn from this? |

People in F1 are only interested in F1. Don't care one iota about V8s or any other category for that matter. Just as V8 people don't care for any other category at their meetings.

true, but I thought that the V8s were considered to be special and unique, and here we have a man who is arguably the most powerful individual in motorsport saying he doesn't even watch them while he is at an event.

Where did this come from?
I suppose it serves the journo right for going for a sentimental "i love them" type response that would suddenly be a top story. Then they get desperate and pull out the "Not even for the rumble and the roar?". What a load of crock... |

Why would somebody, for whom seeing an F1 car at close quarters being driven to the limit by the world's most talented drivers, is almost an everyday experience have any interest whatsoever in our little domestic NASCAR transplant? What can be drawn from this? Well, I draw from it that the interviewer was seeking some reflected credibility for the SuperTaxis, much like they do at the Gold Coast each year when the visiting American CART Teams all gush over how good the V8's sound (although this could just be them being super-polite - I don't think anybody has ever accused Bernie of being too polite). |

Picked it up at www.crash.net, the interview is from a press conference in Melbourne. I thought it was fun because a journo thought that BE might find V8s impressive. Pah!

Well if there are any sort of power problems at the AGP there won't be any cars to watch while a bunch of pea brainer sparkies try to hold the state to ransom for a pay claim.
And on the subject of the threat to shut down the GP for a pay claim ,to the sparkies just one word, tram conductors. |

Would have been the same answer If the journo had mentioned any other type of motorsport except for MotoGP Id say going by the number of race's I've see him at.

Let's remember that Bernie has successfully killed off some of the world's leading touring car championships (WTCC, ETC, DTM, etc.)...

nah bernie is being a schmuck.
by claiming and behaving in such elitist manner he can degrade a very good fomr of auto racing, F1 is cool in almost every respect, but a nascar 1 mile oval is intense, a Champcar race at a superspeedway is breathtaking, V8's rumbling in the streets is absolutley thrilling, and touring cars battling it out everylap until they expire is inspired. but Bernie is busy with his money his empire and monopoly and most of all keeping F1 the most elite, by degrading via way of ignoring every other category. he is a horses rear |

gttouring - have to disagree - every follower of motorsport will have a different opinion of the different categories.
To say "touring cars battling it out everylap until they expire is inspired" is showing a bias - there are many many rev-heads who couldn't give a monkeys about tourers and, particularly in Australia, there would not be many people that would even believe that V8's can actually race each other without being called in for a drive through, getting a points penalty or simply being too scared to even attempt to pass another car without fearing the wrath of the stewards or Colin Bond. Maybe he is a horses rear - but you cannot deny he is an extremely welathy and powerful man - simply by being a horses rear... |

Also - how long before TC issues his rebuttal about how he doesn't watch F1?

A bit off topic (OK very very off topic).... Is channel Ten (ie Cromley + one) going to call the F1 race like they did last year for the Australian GP???

Unfortunatly Dill Wood and Nill Competency will be commentating for the Aus GP. Also the ten team have made a similar big deal about F1 people being crazy about the V8's which really made me laugh when a few issues of F1 Racing ago, when asked which other category of racing they would like to try, only 1 driver out of the 22 asked answered V8's.

Mark Webber once said he'd like to have a go at V8's. When he's retired from F1 of course.

Just because V8s are seemingly popular here and we are told everyone loves them certainly doesn't mean everyone does. Bernie probably just likes abit of variety in his motorsport.......
Apparently Woods and Crompton are calling the AGP again.....even Channel 9 had the common sense to give us the pro's for our GP. How many Grands Prix have Woods and/or Crompton driven in, or been around? |
