Help with the bikes
I've been wanting to start 125cc racing but im not sure about what bike I sould go for. I have £2000 to spend, can anyone give my any advice. At the moment i've been looking at a second hand Yamaha TZR125R.

Before you buy a bike, check the licensing requirements! If you're a novice, at your age you can only ride a production 125.

Go for an Aprilia RS125, it's fast and unlike other Italian vehicles quite reliable.
But i think they can be quite costly, even second hand. A Honda NSR125 is good too but i doubt if they still produce those. Haven't seen one here in ages. A Yamaha TZR125 is a decent, fast bike too though. Hell, its all up to what you can afford really. Found a great looking one here: http://www.motor-forum.nl/forum/topic.php/49659/1 Only downside is that it's in Holland, quite expensive and 10 years old... Following on from my quick reply, before rushing into buying a bike, it would be advisable to think about where you want to race & which clubs run championships you will be eligible for - you'll have get a club to sign your ACU licence application.
Take alook at the Bemsee: http://www.bemsee.co.uk/ & North Gloucester: http://www.ngroadracing.org/ websites. Both have good forums where you'll get a lot of helpful advice. As for the bike, I agree with ASCII Man, an Aprilia RS125 might be a better bet - there's one for sale in this week's Bikesport News at £1,800. Buy an RS125 & you could race in the Superteens, which is a great series for a young rider to start in. |

I have found a Honda NSR125r for £2000 but i'm not sure about it because its a 1998 modal and I don't know whether it will go as fast as the rest.

Not sure about that, i know a guy who could beat guys on brand new, state of the art Aprilia RS' with a 6 year old Suzuki RGV.
It depends how good the opposition is really, and how good you are ofcourse. But i doubt you would be able to run with the top guys with that bike. |

I've never seen one race......
But Cagiva can't be that bad, can it? Carlos Checa did some good stuff on it back in the early 90's IIRC... Last edited by ASCII Man; 6 Mar 2004 at 14:07. |

Yeh Rossi had one in the Italian 125 series and did wonders with it to get a ride with Aprilia!

get any bike you can afford. i dont kno if you've raced before but if you havn't, don't go out looking to be competitive. you won't be and you'll just get frustrated and end up packin it in. by all means get a fast bike but just go easy and hang round the back. follow the vet's learn the stuff then go for the podium. good luck with the racin
