EJ (Jordan F1) endorsement

Taken from www.f1jordan.com

EJ introduces Fairuz Fauzy

Eddie Jordan is pleased to announce his endorsement of the racing career of Fairuz Fauzy, the 21 year old British Formula 3 driver from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Chief Executive of Jordan Grand Prix, Eddie Jordan said: “I want to encourage Fairuz in his racing career as he’s a promising young driver. He’s had some good years of karting at home in Malaysia and recently made the move to the UK to do British Formula 3 which is big step. I wish him all the very best and am confident that Jordan will find opportunities to bring him on in the future.”

Fairuz Fauzy said: "I am obviously very excited about the prospect of working with Jordan Grand Prix. Their endorsement of me gives me the confidence and motivation to work hard and drive well in this years British Formula 3 Championship. It is good for Malaysia to have a driver involved in a Formula 1 programme and also good for Jordan to have an involvement with a Malaysian driver. I look forward to developing my relationship with the team."

Fairuz Fauzy was born on 24 October 1982 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and currently lives in Northampton, United Kingdom. He began karting in 1990 and with several Asian Kart Prix Championships to his name, he moved to Britain in 2001 to compete in British Formula Renault and then British Formula 3 for the last two years.

Is this guy Fauzy really good?

Just got back from Oulton! Man it was bloody cold! Managed to get some decent pics back though, above is Mr Fauzy running in a very distinctive livery, I like it! Better than all the white cars running around today! Even the bloody Hitech cars are white now! Wasn't alot to shout about action wise, everybody was well behaved! Parente had a big spin on the way up Clay Hill and did a bit of damage before I left but generally everyone well behaved! Didn't here any times, hopefully jinxxy can enlighten us on them

Like I said elsewhere on this forum, all you need for F1 is a year or two in FRenault/F3 and a large bag of gold.Eddie Jordan would issue a press release raving about my Grannies driving skills if he thought there was money in it.Who gets taken in by all this PR ****?

All teams doing it to some extent. How often have we hard from Random Team A about how great the feedback was in testing of Random Driver B's first drive.

Or Autosport's favorite phrase "rising single seater ace..."

If Eddie stuck Robbie Kerr or maybe Adam Carroll in one of his cars, using his own personal fortune to fund it,then he'd earn some real respect. Why does he have this mantel of 'assisting & supporting young talent'? That's just more bull**** in my view.

Difficult to get times from the day, but it's the first real dry test we've had in F3. Rumours put Piccione and Dirani in the low 1:28's - certainly I clocked Dirani on a 1:28.8 on just his 2nd lap out in the last session. Got Rossiter/Fortec around 1:29.0. We/ADR were really slow in the dry, couldn't get any tyre temperature/grip at all - Lloyd 1:29.6, Will Power 1:29.8. Still we know where the problem is, and it's rare that a day is so cold that the tyre comes back colder than when it went out!! 2 more days at Oulton in a fortnight, so I hope it's dry again, and we can get some good work in on our setup!

Any chance Carlin were on tire warmers? F3000 teams often use them in testing during the winter (and just in general) to avoid wasting laps getting the tires up to temp.

The tires coming back colder is interesting. If you looked at a rundown of a testing run at Barcelona in an F1 car, Driver X in Car Y will go out of the pits and immediately do a 17, then an 18, then a 19, then settle into 20s and 21s for the remainder of his 10-20lap run.

I think it was unusually cold today. Our tyres never actually came in - we got cold graining on them - I think you had to do something which we didn't, to get the tyres into the operating window. Once you got them in, it would be a really quick love-thine-engine sort of day, going by those times.

For example, pole times for the 2 races at Oulton Park in 2002 were 1:30.2 and 1:31.3. Worryingly, Robbie Kerr in the ADR car was 9/10ths off and 5/10ths off the pace. Last year the pole times were 1:30.5 and 1:31.2.

OK I think there has been a slight change in a chicane (?) but if you could get heat into the tyres, you've got a helluva quick day. 1:28.3 is pretty rapid.

It might well have been, but we were at Oulton

There were a few very light snow flurries in the afternoon.

higher pressures and/or or stiffer suspension and/or more wing and/or instructions to the drivers to "drive like its your playstation" on the outlap to generate heat?

There's a good chance that a mega outlap was what caused the graining! Not spending enough time getting the tyre warmed up right through. Tyre warmers would have been a good idea.
