Maybe he can't drive on rain, unlike Alesi.

For some reason Tomcyzk didn't run in the last few minutes of the (first) session. Since the circuit was getting faster with each minute, that pretty much condemned him to the back.
Alesi - yes, the wet weather master - the fastest guy on wets! Unfortunately mother nature dictates dry is faster. Hope the race is wet. Top 10 turnaround - 4 Mercs, 4 Opel's - only 2 Audi's! |

Excellent win for Gary.
Good racing between Albers & Ekstrom... Dull racing from Scheider & Tomczyk, the commentators may have over-done it a bit, but we were watching nothing happen for a very long time! Nice work by Aiello again to climb up to 5th. Looks like these three (Albers, Paffett & Ekstrom) are going to run away with it this year. |

what a shame! I don't know what happened...by the sounds of it, it sounds as if the car just dumped the remaining fuel onto the track on Paffett's slowing down lap? Any reason's from Merc HQ on this? Is Paffett going to appeal or is it pointless?

No kidding. He had 0 ltrs of petrol - he ran out of fuel on the slowing down lap!
Surely if there was a rule like that (not saying there isn't) - why did they even go through the podium procedure!? Last edited by Hazard; 6 Jun 2004 at 20:11. |

There has to be 1.5 litres to measure after the race so the fule is according to the rules.

So there wasn't a problem with the car? Just an error from the Merc team on Paffett's car?
I bet Paffett is extremely p***ed off to see a win go just like that! |

Strange. I'm not disputing the rule - or the disqualification. Just, it's irratting watching a podium when the result is false.
If there had to be 1.5 litres of fuel - then the fact Paffett had run out of fuel, means clearly his race was over - and he hadn't won when it happened - what were the five hours to work out? Never mind. Shame really. Ekstrom the first double winner this year then. |

Even with F1 they're bringing aggregate in now for qualifying. Races soon will follow. Especially with the results twiddling you *usually* get in the ETCC, it would probably make more sense for the podium for the previous race, to take place just before the next one! |

Shame...It must be so embarressing for the driver (such as Paffett) to be up their on the podium knowing his won, only for a few hours later to be kicked out.

At least I suppose it's for something technical, and not say for pushing or shoving. That way it doesn't reflect on the driver much except for his scorecard - and obviously championships chances. Now 19 points behind Albers, not 7 - likely to be the Mercedes second fiddle for the rest of the season.

Although I wanted Ekstrom to win at the time, I'm gutted for Gary!! No driver should have a win taken off them after so long, when they clearly knew he ran out of fuel!!!!!
Also Schneiders first podium of 2004, but he didn't take it! |

Gary Paffet was disqualified five hours after the race the reason is that the car was to light. So the result of the race is now 1.Ekstrom 2.Albers 3.Schneider
