Laptop hell
Right, I've finally got myself a laptop courtesy of a grovelling trip to my bank managers office, and it should arrive at the end of the week.
So, the question now is what are the essentials I should install? What kind of protection is best? Internet security.... I already run Spybot......is there anything out there that will complement this (for free preferably). What is the best pop up stopper and spam blocker? Also, I have dug up my old copy of GPL. Provided it works on windows XP, what are the best sites for downloads and the best actual downloads? Are there patches to enhance the graphics (which I remember were pretty rubbish despite my PC being easily powerful enough....) What about F1 challenge downloads? Any other essentials? Please help! |

Ad Aware and AVG are all you need. Also download the latest xp updates as soon as you get it. Also before you connect to the internet go to Control Panel, Admin Tools, Services then find one called messenger and right click and click properties stop it and disable it. That will stop you getting loads of pop ups on xp.

I've got AVG 6.0, not sure if a newer version is out. Stops anything virus-looking quite quickly.
I also have GPL running on XP, just patch it up to the most recent version to get it running stable. |

Hmmm. Not entirely..... Spybot Search and Destroy and Bazooka will both pick up things that AdAware doesn't..... (trust me!). |
