SCV8 this year?
Isn't SCV8 supposed to start this year? Or has it gone down the drain?
I think it is a shame becos 5 litre V8 touring cars sound exciting. The official website is under re-construction... |

Not this year... or for the forseeable future.

I noticed the website was under reconstruction (how bored was I to even be looking?), it mentions there will be news early this year. However, like sceptic I really can't see the series getting off the ground this year (got to be too late to put together now), if Mr Palmers T1 series gets up and running then they'll definitley have missed their chance. Shame really because the concept sounded ok.

Andy Rouse is the greatest touring car driver ever and a great engineer. This series is a great idea. However to succeed something needs to be done about all the other championships. The best way to introduce the SCV8 would be as a top class in the BTCC.

I wonder if we see either series, as they both look to be aiming to plug a 'gap in the market' that doesn't exist.
Of the two, T1 is more likely as JP can more easily incorporate it into a race series of some sort. |

Once again T1 was a good idea and could also be another class of BTCC. The Formula Saloons guys should also be allowed to compete as privateers.

SCV8 would have gone the same way as V8 Star in Germany. Any championship needs significant funding to get 1) The best circuits 2) Promotional support 3) Buy TV coverage
With the exception of the likes of Nescafe, Old Spice and a couple of others there hae been no big budget sponsors that are totally unrelated to the car manufacturers in touring car racing in the last ten years. How SCV8 thought they were going to attract such sponsors is beyond me. BTCC is huge because of the money that Seat, Vauxhall, Proton and co put into the championship to ensure that the best drivers and teams can compete in the series. The big flaw in the SCV8 plan was the standard issue cars with 'interchangeable bodies'. Now, I know the BTCC cars and DTM cars are not built by the manufacturers, but at least the manufacturers have control over the specs. I couldn't see Peugeot, Jaguar etc etc investing millions in a project they didn't have control over. |

And SCV8 won't be happening either.
Common sense prevails. |

I did see a comment on another forum saying that SCV8 is dead and will not be happening.
