Lack of OW coverage on the news
Yesterday I was watching the local news and in the sports segment it was mentioned that Buddy Rice wouldn't be able to race in the Indy 500 because of his injuries (which is very dissappointing, by the way).
As I thought about it later, I realized that that sports segment was the first time in a long time that I saw an open-wheel story without a NASCAR story in the segment as well. Open-wheel news coverage has decreased significanty, and I found it very sad. |

Yes - there's no real interest among the general public in the USA.
Which makes it more tragic that single-seater racing is intent on tearing itself apart rather than doing something about the crisis. |

Even the Indy500 seems to have become a regional event. I was in Chicago last week and the coverage there was minimal at best despite the big crashed by Rice and Dana, and of course the fast times by Danica.
Here in Canada we still get pretty good coverage of Champ Car on the sports news stations. The inital expansion of coverage of the IRL related to Carpentier heading over there seems to have died back down to nothing as his results have been poor. |
