Australia = All Good News
Lexmark has announced that they will continue to sponsor the event for three more years after the current contract expires, up to 2008.
More. Marcus Marshall and David Besnard staged a demonstration drive through the streets of Brisbane today. Over 50,000 people showed up to watch! Marshall: "The vibe was incredible and it's obvious the Queensland and Australian public are right behind Alex and I." More. |

No doubt about it. It's a class act.
There was just something in the air when I was there that I can't put into words... Might have to dig out all my pictures I took and have a flick through 'em... |

Another good piece about the promotion.......although I sure question that 1.7 BILLION will be watching it on TV. How many people are on this planet, anyway? |

The 1.7 billion figure is probably potential viewers rather than actual

K-B, more than a fourth of the planet's entire population, every man, woman and child? I doubt there's even close to that many TV sets operating in the world, let alone those who could actually watch the race. In CART's later years, it claimed ACCESS to something like 100 million viewers internationally, but 1.7 BILLION?

There's a difference between 1.7B television sets, and 1.7B potential viewers. A family of four with one TV would count as four, for instance. And I can't believe that we're spending this much time debating a typo in an article.

Surfers Paradise is one of the few a way races to still be around and in Champ Car today so it must be a successful event.

well to add a little more Interest to Champcars down under Team Australia drivers Alex Tagliani and marcus marshall will take control of a V8 supercar in the upcoming Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000 touring car races.
they have both been out testing the car and despite a few offs by both of them have been pretty much on the pace (this is also one chance for Young Marcus to become tags teacher as he has experience of these cars before ) next weekend is the Sandown 500 race and the team (WPS racing , owned by Craig Gore who also owns or co owns Champcars team Australia) have painted the car up in the champcar livery. there is a thread about it in the V8 forum , and you can find it and pics of the car here http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...=1#post1397685 looks good and I wish them well |

This is good news. Especially since I bought an apartment in Surfers just so I would have an excuse to go to the race!

Both a Champcar and two V8Supercars did burnouts in front of a Lunchtime Brisbane crowd, that is where the 50,000 came from. 1.7 Billion They would have to know what a Champcar is first..preposterous figure. At Least NASCAR and V8Supercar keep it at 800 million(just as false, but it sounds better) Alan Jones quoted 4 Billion for the new A1GP. How about including Aliens in distant galaxies that maybe picking up the TV signal? |
