Practical Photography

I picked up a copy of this month's Practical Photography at lunchtime and there is a feature on Motorsport Photography, the feature looks like it was written after at LMES round at Silverstone back in August and TBH its not fantastic but it seems to be more aimed at people that are new to Motorsport Photography.

I entered their recent competition in conjuction with Rizla Suzuki BSB team to submit a motor racing photo (not necessarily bikes) and was gutted to be told my image lacked impact

I entered that competition too and got a reply to the effect that it made the final call. Strange thing was that both the first and second placed placed pics were virtually the same as mine - same subject, same angle (you could enter upto 3). I have to admit tho that the winners were just that bit better.

I just saw the winning shots in PP and all I can say is hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Despite the assertion in the entry form that it was general motorsport and not just bike images required it seems a sus that 3 bike shots won and the overall winner just happens to be of a Suzuki Rizla BSB

I entered that aswell, but "lacked impact"... only one bike shot probably didn't help!

Nice stuff Paul.. Like exams when entering competitions you need to think what they want to see and hear not what you want to show or say!

Well, call me cynical, but I'd have thought that the phrase recent competition in conjuction with Rizla Suzuki BSB team would have given a clue as to what to submit to stand a chance of winning..

Bit difficult when you don't go to Superbike meetings... but yeah, I see what you mean!

Worth a shot though.

Could not agree more. Lacked impact was not too harsh.

Now I've finally got a copy of the mag... not a bad article. If the article is to be believed they stayed in the spectator area, which is good to see. Going back to the Photographers Trackday thread this sort of proves the point that you can still learn and improve your technique without the need for proper trackside access. In fact the whole thing is a very simplfied version of the whole trackday idea.

Re the Sukuzi competition, I can't see too many people having any arguements with the winner, a great shot.
