Chimpoholics anonymous

My name is David and I'm a chimpoholic.. I've been a chimp for 6 years.. I have not had a chimp for, err, 3 weeks (oh-err missus)....

I know no shame.. I'll chimp in public.. I'll chimp in private.. even in front of spectators.. It's not a dirty habit, it's good, clean fun.. I have my reasons.. At least I can admit my addiction.. and I know that those who say they don't, do, only it's their dirty little secret..

So I'd likle to throw open the doors of chimpoholics anonymous, ten-tenths branch, as a place for all you digital twiddlers out there to admit your addiction, own up and share with uncle Dave..

Remember, chimping is for life, not just for christmas..

CHIMPING IS NOT A CRIME

Lock up the Brasso

Oh dear........

I had better find a race for DL to cover..........maybe he can go to bloody Istanbul instead of me...........

his driving technique would go down well with the excitable locals.

JB........... worried that if he is like this after 3 weeks, what state will he be in by March?

Dear David

I admire your honesty and openness. I to am a chimpaholic, though it's only been 8 days since my last chimp. I know I'll be chimping again this weekend, but I just can't help it.

It all started last year when I bought a digital SLR, and life hasn't been the same since. I've even tried buying more CF cards to help, but like in The Verve's song, 'the CF cards don't work'. I too will chimp in public - in fact I'll chimp anywhere...... As much as I am ashamed, I know I am not alone, and it's refreshing to find others will admit to this vile, disgusting habit on a public forum.

PIGIT - we're here for you too (I've seen you at Brands)

I wish you luck with your rehab......... man, this cold turkey sucks.....

Gawping at the LCD of your camera to check pics. For best affect the perpetrator should be wearing an inane grin. Tends to lead to missing some spectacular action on track. Fortunately this usually goes unnoticed.

I believe there is a patch that can be worn to try and ween the wearer from chimping. Not sure if it is available on the NHS yet.

C'mon chimpers.. Don't be ashamed.. admit it, chimping is a gas... join the craze that's hipper than the hula-hoop.. more boingy than a bungy jump and safer than trying to pick up "girls" in Bangkok..

Hubble, Mike, Jase, rdjones.. welcome to the group.. let's join together in our anthem..

Do.. Do.. Do.. the funky gibbon..

You do remember "The Goodies".. don't you..?

OK, granted, a gibbon is not a chimp, but close..

From Wikipedia : "Chimping is a term used in digital photography (especially when using a digital single lens reflex camera or DSLR) to describe the habit of checking every photo on the on-camera display (LCD) immediately after capture"..

The action of dropping of the head to look at the screen after every shot is more of a bird like movement than animal like surely.

And I'm just as guilty as anyone else. It's now 10 days since my last Chimp and 4 days till my next one. I may be able to give up for the winter, but will need to get down the gym during February to build up my neck muscles ready for a new season of Chimping.

What a great topic!

I must admit I do it less now, I wait until all the cars have passed or whatever, even if there is an exciting incident. Let's face it, if you missed the shot, there's not much you can do about it anyway!

If you got the Chimp Withdrawal Patch and applied it to the screen on the camera that would cause Chimping to stop immediately.

If a Chimpanzee got hold of a camera and did what we admit to, would that be humaning?
