Tassie_Devil should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Rally Australia 2006

Raly Australia is coming up this weekend. I can't wait, I am really excited to see this rally on tv. Petter Sohlberg and Marcus Gronholm will go into a battle for second place both drivers are currently on 71 points, and my favourite driver in the world will be driving in his home event Chris Atkinson. It will also be good to see how Colin Mcrae will do returning to Skoda for this event. I will try to post the stage times and news on this thread.
p.s. is anybody going to see the rally live?

It should be a cracking rally, Loeb will be quick as ever, Gronholm and Solberg are good on gravel (and as Solberg noted in an interview - they're both insane ). This event is also Atkinsons best shot at getting a good result, he's on home turf and he's got to deliver, he's shown good flashes of speed this year but has made too many mistakes.

It'll be interesting to see how the new Focus performs too, I'm not sure this one run will give an accurate picture of where its performance will be next year but it'll be a good pointer. Given the relative lack of works teams next year it'll probably be Fords best shot at the title for a while.

I was at the rally yesterday. It was my first time that I have been to a rally and it was great. I will not be able to go today but I will be going again on Saturday.

Apparently Gronholm clobbered a rock and destroyed his suspension.

That was bad luck to see Atkinson drop from 1st to 13th. But I hope he can come back. Colin 2d not bad too.

This is highest Fabia has ever been: hire McRae for 2006, Skoda, you may actually get some results, too.

McRae now dropped to 3rd. Rovanpera quicker on the first two stages of the last leg.
Atkinson quickest on first stage, Duval quickest on second.

Duval keeps increasing his lead where battle behind him (for 2nd and 4th) gets closer.

A first WRC win for Duval, not many of the other works drivers got to the end, how many kangaroo strikes were there? Very odd, you don't normally hear about that many. Bad luck for McRae too, he was looking good for a podium.

1: Duval
2: Rovanpera
3: Stohl
4: Atkinson
5: Galli
6: Kresta
7: Sola
8: Schwarz
9: Arai
10: Higgins

when solberg came past me on ss13 he had supposeadly hit the roo 10km before he got to me. his car had no damage at all but had a really bad smell of oil. he finnished the stage and radioed the crew about a loss of oil pressure and no report of hitting a kangaroo.
it makes me think that a kangaroo was just a convienent excuse for an engine failure.
what do you guys think

A shame for Atkinson too. If not for his problems, he would have been a real threat for the win. A rivetting rally though .....

The ITV coverage showed the in car shots from Solbregs car as he hit the Kangaroo, it was a hefty whack on the front of the car, not long after that Solberg started talking about rising oil temperature and engine temperature. He got to the end of the stage but the engine was roasted and he had no choice but to retire. I'm pretty much certain that the problem was 'roo induced.

The speed of the new Focuses was very promising, car was already made for 2006 rules, without active locks and water injection on engine.

It would of made my month or even year if Chris had finished first. But it is also good that the team was able to repair his car and still race unlike most of the other drivers.

For the most part this season ITV have mentioned the British drivers haven't they? That made it even stranger that they left Higgins out of the coverage - especially as he finished inside the top ten.
