Dual V8 Supercar champion Marcos Ambrose will ease into the Craftsman Truck Series in the US this year and may have to sit out the first three rounds.

Due to ultra-strict guidelines in the high-speed races, rookie drivers - even those with Ambrose's experience - need to prove their ability.

NASCAR.com?

Seriously though, they have great (Nay, brilliant) media coverage, and you can find all you need at their site.

A new racing company expected to open Jan. 25 in Harrisburg could help the town become a destination for auto racing enthusiasts.

Wood Brothers Racing/JTG Racing Inc. will bring a NASCAR Nextel Cup Series team, two NASCAR Busch Series teams and two NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series teams. A second Nextel Cup team will arrive in 2007.

The teams' drivers are Ken Schrader, Stacy Compton, Jon Wood, Bobby East and Marcos Ambrose.

The company will have a staff of 120 employees, he said. Plans include hiring 20 more employees by the end of this year.

It will cost about $750,000 to upgrade the 129,000-square-foot former warehouse on N.C. 49 at Caldwell Road. It will be able to house up to 70 racing cars and trucks.

Log on to www.surfmusic.de. This site will let you listen to most radio stations in the world. Select USA, then NORTH CAROLINA. Select WFNZ 610AM. This is a SPORTS TALK radio station in Charlotte N.C. Always has a lot of info on NASCAR etc.

Seeing he has never raced on an oval, I think that is fair. Just as you have to have a racing licence here to say your capable of driving a car adequately on a roadcourse. I can see that NASCAR does the same with "newbies" as well.

The reason Ambrose wasn't listed was because he is in Tassie still. apparently waiting on his work visa.
was talking to him last night at the local speedway.

damm , well lets hope the red tape doesnt hold him back (allthough I dont see why it should ?)

I was really hoping to see him at daytona because its about all my interest can hold for this type of series but you never know the tassie devil may just spark a bit more interest for me.

Is Ambrose running Daytona? The '06 team chart at www.jayski.com (good site to follow NASCAR) lists Jon Wood as running the #20 truck at Daytona and California. Ambrose must be going to take over at the third race of the season at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Ambrose probably does not have NASCAR clearance to run the first two races.

He does not, nor does Bobby East. His licencing restrictions means he will be running at Martinsville.

Driver should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Quoted from nascar.com

" Wood/JTG's rookie lineup of Bobby East and Marcos Ambrose have yet to be approved to race superspeedways.

Team co-owner Eddie Wood said that Jon Wood, his son, would race the first three events of the season, at Daytona, California and Atlanta before Ambrose took over in the No. 20 at Martinsville. "

So what is involved in getting a superspeedway licence?

It seems rookies can sometimes get into F1 with just testing duties. Can't they do same here?

I don't think there is a true NASCAR license as with the FIA and SCCA type systems. The main thing NASCAR looks for is that a driver can handle the race cars on the track in race traffic under actual conditions. Testing is typically done with only one or maybe two cars on the track and doesn't reflect the race traffic. NASCAR usually requests that the driver start at shorter tracks where the speeds are slower and the consequences of any errors are reduced. Crashes at high speed tracks like Daytona are usually more severe and will generally cause more significant damage/injury. If a rookie driver can perform well, stay out of trouble, and show respect to other drivers then they have a very good chance of getting cleared for larger tracks. It's largely a case by case basis depending on the driver and their performance. Drivers with open wheel experience on high speed ovals may gain clearance without running short tracks. I believe that Paul Tracy was going to make his debut last year on a larger track rather than a shorter track. So like I said its dependent on the particular driver.
