Longbeach 2008.
Given some of the opinions on these pages regarding overseas rounds what is the general view about a round in Long Beach California together with Champcar just like Surfers Paradise? Logitically this would be easier than China or the Middle East and there would be a ready made crowd to enjoy the action. Apparently this is a "Serious Rumour"

Bring it on, but make it an extra round over and above the existing calendar, rather than pull another Oz or NZ round..... because if that isnt done, the belly-aching will be ruddy deafening

I doubt they would get top billing or even equal billing over there...

Nor should they. This has been an open wheel headlined event since its inception.
Who would pay to get them there ? Who would pay the Vesa ransom ? Champ Car who run the event, I doubt it. Currently the event is built around CC, Atlantics and this year Daytona Prototypes (hopefully ALMS soon). Bazil where are the origins of this "serious rumour" |

Would never happen. NASCAR, like V8 Supercars, doesn't like competition.
And those Americans that have seen V8 Supercars seem to enjoy it just a bit too much for NASCARs liking. |

Great idea. Bring it on.
And I agree that it should be made an extra round - rather than a replacement. |

I like the idea. Watchin the V8s go around that circuit would be awesome. And i also agree that it should be an extra round, rather than replacing the rounds they have already or as an replacemnt for Oran Park after they stop using the circuit, which is soon

I actually tried to suggest something similar on the "Where should they go instead of China this year" thread, but as I was editing something else I had just posted, and took too long researching it, I was beyond the 10 minute time limit and lost it, and then couldn't be bothered trying to figure out what I had actually tried to say. I wondered if NASCAR and V8SC should simply agree not to take over each others "home" territory, and work together to develop both. The Pocono 500 in Pennsylvania is on the same weekend as the (theoretical) China V8 round. Maybe they could get on as a support category to that event. Considering that the transporters etc are probably booked, maybe they should go north-east, instead of just north.

Where would they race at Pocono, as far as i know it doesn't contain a road coarse, and touring cars aren't built for the speeds of a superspeedway like Pocono.
If we want an extra round run it at Winton or Eastern Creek or Townsville or wherever, lets populate and use our Australian circuits that are up to VESA standards, not force ourselves upon other race meetings the other side of the world that have absolutly nothing to do with Australian motorsport. |

IF the V8s were to race at Long Beach, I daresay they would not be "forcing themselves upon a race meeting on the other side of the world".
I reckon Champ Car would have a pretty fair say in taking them over there. Dare I say they would have to be invited to even stand a chance of being there ....... |

I heard the same rumour.......
My source was from a friend who has a friend in the USA, this guys friend knows somebody involved within Champ Cars who knows a guy who sweeps the floors for one of the top Champ Car teams, apparently he overheard it late one night while sweeping out the workshop. But then again, who knows..... |

Ad another round and the team members will drop dead from stress. I takes allot of effort to turn the cars around for each round.

Ignoring the technical issues like which track and how, etc, I thought that as a one-off teaser for the yanks, replacing this years China round, it might have some merit.

Are we advertising cigarettes here again?
I always thought they were 2 separate words Will Supercar go there? Depends if the promoter in the US stumps up the cash. Having said that though, the masters of V8SA would be quite chuffed to run a race in the country of NASCAR.... so might wiggle on the price a little to achieve the political edge... |

Seems too far fetched too me. Then are KK and Tony Cochrane doing deals? I heard another rumour that it was going to be Laguna Seca. I think too many US fans WISH they had our races there. I put this rumour down to wishful thinking.

anywhere but Long beach.
The track is the most boring place on earth with absolutely no overtaking possible. Heck lets go back to canberra instead shall we ? If they wanted to do this then why not try a better track like Cleveland perhaps Long Beach is rubbish |

a conflict of interest ..

itd be a conflict of interest for the major backers ie Holden & Ford - their US parents may question the value of company dollars being spent (wasted?). |

I would have thought it was the other way around. Maybe Ford and GM think it is a good way to showcase what they are doing with their brands outside of the US.... Surely it would'nt be bad publicity. |

Don't know how you can claim to have won the bet then - since when is a 'mii second (your speling btw) be equivalent to 27 hours?
The only thing Long Beach would be beneficial to Supercars would be if they allowed the cars to run straight into the Pacific and keep going. At least that way Cochrane could say the V8's can do something no other category can do! |

Hey there storyline,
By my calcs D.T.R responded to this post about Supercars in aprox 73 minutes(page 1 of this thread) and not 27hours as you claim and as I made the thread I also made the rules. Rule 16774-42c Paragragh 3 "any poison pen work of Supercars posted within 75 minutes of this thread appearing will be deemed a Mili- Second. I rest my case and claim my cash! Bazil. |
