coyote9999 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
What should we expect on Feb. 14th

I've been thinking on what we should expect for the Feb. 14th unveiling and news conference by the Champ Car owners. I know the major news will come from Atlantics but I presume news would come from the major series as well. Here are things I would expect:

Atlantics : The showcase of the new car, number of cars ordered, teams confirmed (espceially the new ones), drivers confirmed and possibly a title sponsor or other series sponsors. If we have that i'd be pretty pleased.

As for Champ Car: Hopefully more drivers confirmed and sponsors, State of affairs for venues such as Montreal, Ansan, and The Mile, How many 2007 chassis ordered thus far, and news on possible venues for 2007 (where is the main focus???). Also would be nice to know the total car count expected for this year and to know if any new teams are expected. A series sponsor would be a great booster but I think it highy unlikely.

Anybody else have any opinions on what we should expect?

I completely agree with your thoughts about the Atlantics. Seems like the heavy focus will be there as it has been for most of the off-season.

As for the Champ Cars, it would definitely be nice to see some major announcements made, but I'm not holding my breath. With the "revolving door" nature of the series, I doubt that it will be anything ground breaking. Maybe more towards the end of February/early March.

But I seriously hope that I'm wrong.

Is this the same day (Feb.14) that A.Bessette, Atlantics driver, is receiving his award?

Perhaps it'll be one of those 'state of the series' conferences. They'll probably announce the schedule, the teams that are confirmed, and maybe progress of the 2007 chassis.

Or, they could declare their undying love to the fans

Brooks Associates Racing couldn't wait until the 14th, as they came out a few days early and announced Luis Schiavo as one of their drivers.

Capacity Crowd Expected to Witness Official Unveiling of New Champ Car Atlantic Race Car

February 10, 2006
INDIANAPOLIS – Opening Night for the new generation car of the Champ Car Atlantic Championship Presented by Yokohama is expected to play to a packed house next week as response for the Official Unveiling of the new Atlantic racing machine and the launch of the 2006 Champ Car season has been overwhelming.

More than 500 people are expected to attend the festivities next Tuesday evening, February 14 at the posh Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Representatives of both the Atlantic and Champ Car racing communities will be joined by members of the media, event promoters and series sponsors and manufacturers as the capacity crowd welcomes the arrival of the 2006 racing season and next generation of Atlantics.

The crowd will witness the debut of the new made-in-the-USA Swift 016.a Atlantic chassis powered by a 2.3-liter, 300-horsepower Cosworth engine riding on Yokohoma Racing Slicks as it rolls off the assembly line and into the public eye for the very first time.

“We’re thrilled that so many people have responded so positively to the unveiling of the new Atlantic car and are eager to come out and celebrate the official launch of the 2006 season,” said Vicki O’Connor, Managing Director of the Champ Car Atlantic Championship Presented by Yokohama.

“This could be the biggest Valentine’s Day party in Los Angeles.” In addition to some of the top rising stars of racing and legends of the sport like Jimmy Vasser and Bobby Rahal, several Hollywood celebrities are also expected to be in attendance for the invitation-only affair and several significant Champ Car and Atlantic series announcements are also planned for the evening. Festivities will get underway on Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m. Pacific Time at the Peterson Automotive Museum.

A new business plan? What's the matter with the current one? Seems fine at "keeping the series alive" if you ask me!

Something else that just couldn't wait until tonight was Bite Racing's announcement that they are campaigning two Atlantic cars this season.

Live video on now. The event hasn't started yet. Lots of shots of Legge. I think that is Dan Petit she is talking to.

The new swift chassis looks great! Very current, but still true to the recent Atlantic tradition.
