BRDC presidency
Damon Hill has been nominated by Mike Knight and Jackie Oliver. He also seems to have the support of Jackie Stewart judging by the words he said on autosport.com.
Damon is a sensible man and a leading figure who would do a good job. IMHO. However I don't know who else, if anyone, has been nominated. (This thread could go in many forums as it effects many aspects of motorsport. The big new story is always the GP so I'll start it in F1 and move it to national leaving a re-direct because it concerns British national motorsport. Perhaps it could roam?). |

Hopefully he'll the the same pragmatic approach Martin Brundle & Jackie Stewart did in their Tenures, seems a good choice.

What does the BRDC actually do? Serious question.

There is an intro here on their site: http://www.brdc.co.uk/aboutus.cfm
And a good summary of the founding principles here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BRDC (yep, wiki!) |

In one sense, not a lot for us "oiks", but in another, a great deal for the sport in general. Some see them as a bunch of hobbledy-hoi's who consider themselves the elite, though that's usuall a spot of jealousy with more chips than Harry Ramsden has produced on their shoulder.
For me, it's an ambition to be asked to join the BRDC. A bit like being a cricketer and being asked to join the MCC. I'm glad that they've nominated Damon. He will be a good ambassador for the sport. Rob. |
