Ferrari F2005
ehm did they scrap all parts of that car yet? Why is Ferrari testing with a 2 year old chassis at Barcelona?

Teams often use old cars to test parts. Especially early in the season as there aren't many new cars available and they have a solid database of information on the old car.
Are you asking why they are using the 2004 car not the 2005 car? Ferrari feel the 2006 car is more similar to the 2004 car than the 2005 car so it is a better starting point for the kind of testing I mention above. This may be down to the long life tyres effecting the car last year, or other Ferrari specific design keys. Overall I think they took a step back to the 2004 before they moved forwards to the 2006. |

As far as I am aware, it is primarily used for tyre testing because the F2004 was designed for short-life tyres.

Ok! The short-life tyre explanation sounds logical to me.
Thanks for clarifying. |

The tyre theory can be the only reason.
Well, that and the fact the F2005 led the team down several blind avenues. |

On the other hand if that was the reason..why didnt other teams use their 2004 challengers in testing?
Ive got to think that in the end its also true that they dont learn nothing from a badly constructed car. |

For sure, part of it is also that they want to go back to the fundamentals of the F2004. Ross has said as much.

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and guess that in addition to short life tires, they probably modified a 2004 last year to accept the v-8
