Panoz GT1
Panoz GT1 due 2007, according to Autosport apparently.
Mortorsport News simply say a Panoz GT1 is planned, with no date given. Based on the Abruzzi road car. |

I thought this project was dead, it must be at least two years since I last heard the 'Abruzzi' mentioned. Wasn't it originally due to be unveiled/raced in 2005?

Maybe people are getting giddy after a win.
I hope the GT2 doesn't lose resources or enthusiasm because of this. |

Scott A. said that Panoz was about to go through some major changes in the upcoming year in his interview with the SPEED guys at Lemans. GT1 is hurting and the ALMS sure dosen't want to loose GM. This move makes sense for the series as well as the success of the Abruzzi. Racing has really put Panoz Motor Company on the map. David Brabahm also said that his opportunities over the next year looked very promising.Panoz wants to compete in GT1.
SPEED agrees with me http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/alms/27254/ |

There were photos of a Panoz GTS-R in the July 2000 edition of Le Mans Series & Sportscar Racer. Unfortunately I cannot scan the picture but can say that the car looks like a cross between a Panoz GTR-1 '97-'98 and a '63 Corvette. Fully Sick

It'd be good to have Panoz back in one of the bigger classes again, shame it won't be an LMP project tho. They've done well with the GT2 car thus far, but the competition in GT1 will be much stronger, with the likes of Aston Martin, Corvette, Maserati, Saleen and Ferrari.

It sounds like great news! Panoz is doing great in GT2 in ALMS right now, and having one more competitor in GT1 wouldn't hurt.

It would do ALMS a world of good to see more GT1 entries...
I think they can do it - let's not forget they've been up against Porsche and Ferrari - cars which are usually absolute solid bets in GT2. With their prototype experience, I think they're pretty well capable... |
