Custom Race Suit

Hi Folks

I'm looking to get a custom 3 layer FIA approved race suit made. Any ideas (with web links) to companies that do this work. Time is not a problem as I don't need the suit till next March but I would like to get a good quality suit that is not over the top in price!!

Many thanks as per usual!!

Grand Prix Racewear offer a service for customising overalls but I have no clue on the costs. The biggest cost comes from the time spent doing the embroidery, the size of the logos, number of different colours and so on. Prepare yourself to dig deep in your pockets

I've two sets of custom made rescue overalls (1 proban, 1 2 layer Nomex) and one set of custom made proban marshaling overalls from AWS and would have no problem in recommending them. They have a really fast turn-around on custom orders too, I was quoted 6 to 8 WEEKS for my marshaling overalls from "another" company and 6 to 8 DAYS from AWS.

I have dealt with them in the past and they are probably the ones I'll go back to. Cheers for the link (as I had lost it).

I also recommend AWS - I visited them and bought a load of kit - very friendly, and he gave me a decent discount. It's also very good stuff AFAICT.

Would certainly go back to them without hesitation.

lol, if enough people want to buy new race suits or marshaling ovies from AWS we might have to pay the set-up fee so that people can request the Ten-Tenths logo embroidered.

Ah, has this become the AWS thread now?

Nick, remember this when I put my next order in for some suits.

I bet Nick wouldn't mind putting the 10-10ths logo on the suits MagnetOn, as long as they are provided.

Last time we spoke to AWS it was going to cost us around £180 for a set-up fee and as at the time it was only going to be on my marshaling overalls I thought I'd just stick with the embroidered patches we have and sew one on myself.

I should offer them a contra, 6 months free banner advertising in exchange for the setup

Most of my gear is AWS too (overalls, boots, gloves). Helps that I can just pop down there if need be, very friendly and helpful. They also sponsor a friend of mine so that's a plus too

If you want embroidery straight on the suits MagnetOn, yes that will be a bit expensive as there are many colours in the logo.
But I bet it is possible to get enough marshals interested for ready made embroidery and get some or all of the set up fee back.
Don't you hate putting those badges on.

Well it's on our list of possible promotional activities for 2007, however the first one is getting car vinyl graphics done.

In the world of custom made race suits there is only 1 option. Stand 21. Very expensive but thats because they are the best. I have an ST3000 which was a shocking ammount of money until I wore it in a very hot saloon car on some of our hotest days this year and stepped out of the car and did'nt feel an instant need to get the suit off like I have in every other suit I've worn. This is an extreme case and you might not need this level of suit but the point is they make the best suits for the job in hand.

Stand21 for me. I am an odd size and if is sooo much better than anything else I have ever even tried. You get what you pay for

I've heard the same about their suits, and I'm considering getting a new one made by them. They have a lot of funky designs "off the peg" almost, compared to bland and plain from everyone else. Then again, I'm know to be a bit lairy!

Simon, out of interest, how much did they fleece you for that suit? It's the ST3000 that I'm looking at.... And how quick did they deliver from your order?

If you want to keep warm, I have a nice double layer proban suit somewhere... weighs a ton too! I had that made to measure by AWS.

Rob.
