Per salutem cerelitas

Apparently, this is the motto of the BMMC (it's on the nice freebie patch badges that we've all been sent when renewing our membership)!

Does anyone actually KNOW what it means? We've Googled, we've Asked Jeeves, we've searched Latin directories but to no avail!

Someone, somewhere, must know - please help!

Yours,
Perplexed of Staffordshire

I can remember most things I was taught in school, but Latin wasn't a subject on our curriculum!

we salute courage??

Sorry, Latin's something I wouldn't have minded learning, but got made to learn Welsh instead.

Thank your Glorious leader, Comrade Morganski!

P.s. Tried this http://www.freedict.com/onldict/lat.html but it didn't work.

Sorry, my Latin goes as far as:

Dum Tempus Habemus (school motto) - While we have time.

and

Felicitas est parvus canis calidus (back of Peanuts cartoon book) - Happiness is a warm puppy.

Thank goodness Snoopy was a dog.

I think I've heard the BMMC one before, though, and Dave's translation matches my memory.

I can still sing the first line of my old school song in latin but I haven't got a clue what it means! Thats what going to the Liverpool Collegiate Grammar School does for you. Or do I know it but 30 years of drinking have dulled the memory!!!

If it is "speed" should it not be "celeritas"?

As the creator of the badge I am following the advice of the late Keith Douglas who gave me that translation. Unfortunately I cannot verify it with him but what the hell it makes a good conversation piece.

That's what I read! I hope it's Sheila's typo & not the spelling on the badge!

Whatever it means ( & yes I did do Latin at school), wasn't it a nice surprise, even better was Elaine's face when she realised she'd have to sew 2 on before Boxing Day!!

Whoops then - if its on the badge!

Mine are all so old they are still BMMRC - so no Latin translation to worry about.

Eric had better put his glasses on!

Forgot to mention, along with the nice cloth badge, when you renew your membership of BMMC, you'll also get a car sticker and a very smart gold membership card.
