Government backing for Silverstone
This story from Autosport says it all really. Not a lot I can say other than it seems really good news.

Government PR babble imo.
The government have a long history of taking advantage of every photo opportunity that British Motorsport has to offer, and then givng sweet FA in return. The article is very thin on concrete promises, or details of what they wil actually do. It's just the usual "We think you're great, please vote for us" nonsense. All that's missing is a picture of some fat over-privileged parasite of a civil servant stood in front of a BRDC logo giving a fake 'thumbs-up'. |

Bit thin on substance the whole article.
It reeks of the government looking for good press publicity after all the negative press they've been getting lately. |

Yup PR bs IMO.
Says nothing. There is very little the Govt can do to help Silverstone. Within the confines of EU law they can't give them financial support and anyway what Govt is going to give millions of pounds to prop up a sport that has, when taken at face value, made the (short) guy at the top very very rich - can you imagine the Daily Mail headlines.... I guess they could help with planning consent but I'm not sure that they have the powers to do this without leaping all over the local authority. If the neighbours winge about noise it's a nuisance issue and the Govt can do sweet fa about it. |

The business reeks of money. The only issue is it's distribution and if money is needed for Silverstone it should come from the many who've fed off the sport for years but are the first to bleat when the cash cow goes sick. (How's that for mixing metaphors?? ) |

Well let's see what happens.....if it is just PR babble, then this is at least better than total silence. There is hope here.

Ah, the UK Government will do anything to get on a bandwagon when it wants!
I'll believe it when I see it though. Silverstone has been promised a lot before but been left with nothing. |
