Ooo, now this would be something different! I can only presume that the Marshals club will be informed about this, and thus we will get to know in due course.

1 - the race of champions organisation I guess (still Michelle Muuton & co)
2 - absolutely no idea, - will they actually want MSA registered race marshals?

Intriguing question though, I just assumed I'd be going as a speccy for it.

I'm guessing that this will be through ISC / MSA events, and treated the same as the Milennium Stadium super specials of the Rally GB, so a rescue unit, a small handfull of marshals in stage for barrier re-aligning, a timekeeping crew, someone to show 'em in & line 'em up and someone to set 'em off & wave 'em home.

Wait and see for now, but I'm probably going to make the effort to go there, whichever side of the fence.

Al.

Methinks that this could well be a rather well subscribed meeting for Marshals.

I was planning to go as a speccy anyway, sometimes it's good to watch from the other side of the fence & be able to get the camera out!

I too was intending to go as a speccy, just a good chance to enjoy the thrills from the other side!

I have been given the contact details for the organiser and have sent him an e-mail asking what types of marshal they want, numbers and times.

As soon as I hear anything I will post it here.

Do not get your hopes up too high though - I believe it is rather a closed shop with RoC bringing many of their own officials.

However, when I know something I will pass it on.

Sorry for the delay, but I now have the relevant information.

The organisers are indeed bringing most of their personnel with them. There will only be a need for some 8 or 10 marshals on the actual stage - four at the start, four at the flag points at the crossovers and two at the end. Paddock duties will be done by the organisers French personnel (and there are only two of them!).

The marshals will be needed for all three days from 8:30am to probably 10:00pm. No payment is being considered, nor will there be any spare tickets, accomodation etc. Even parking might not be allowed and officials may have to be bussed in from a remote location.

If you still want to volunteer for the few places, then there are few more points you need to know.

Because this is a television event more than a motorsport one, presentation is all. Those organising the marshalling have been told all marshals must be "20 to 40 years old, with an appearance that will come across well on TV" (so my 59 years, fifteen stone weight and bald head rule me out!). They will also be working in front of 80,000 spectators as well as the TVcameras - so any mistakes will be very public.

If after all this you still want to volunteer, then e-mail me your motorsport CV, grade and events done this year, plus a photo. I will then liaise with the organisers.

Me? I think I might just buy a ticket and go and spectate

Am I understanding this right? They want a few 'pretty' people to volunteer for three 13 and a half hour days for which they can expect no reward and it may in fact actually cost them a significant amount of money (parking in LONDON !!!). Ugly bugs need not apply

Oh, let me think if I'm going to jump at the opportunity - Okay, I've thought, and I've just remembered, I'm picking fluff out of my navel that day.

With the new anti-agism laws that have just come into effect are they allowed to discriminate in this way?
As for 80000 spectators, a lot of us have just come back from the GP where 80 million people watch opur every move.

Sorry, can't make it that weekend. I'll be marshalling where my ability would be more important than my looks...( to them)

Dammit, i'm already booked to do a Dior catwalk show that weekend with Kate and Naomi so i'll have to miss it. Surely they won't have too many problems finding size zero marshals or rescue crew who look like DiCaprio!
