Set up specs for Lotus Type 69
Greetings all, new to the site and am hoping to get a bit of information on the proper set up and specifications for a 1972 Lotus Type 69.
The car belongs to my team mate and we are trying to determine the proper set up. Everything from tire pressures to jet sizes. Unfortunately the car only came with an abbreviated race history and no useful information. Any assistance or reference would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Al B. Team L.O.S.T. Houston, Tx. |

Looking at the photos that came with the car's history it would appear that the car ran in Formula Atlantic.

Richard Spelberg, Lotus-Books sold a book of Lotus 69 specifications:
Lotus 69 F2, F3, FF. Lotus Racing 1971. Clean Reprint, many contemporary photos and data sheets from my large collection. English language. Limited edition. $ 54,95 - £ 29,95 Sounds like that is what you are after, unfortunately Richard died recently so you can't get a copy at present. Some of the original specifications won't be valid - tyre pressures for example (with earlier cars on Dunlop L & M section tyres the pressures used now can be about half what they were originally). Suspension geometry could be slightly different to original as well, since the current tyres will be different, that can also mean different spring rates etc. Jet sizes will only be a starting point, if you know which engine you have there are various Cosworth specification sheets that give basic settings for Lotus twin-cams and Cosworth BD engines. It's probably better to find someone running a similar car (preferably nearer the front of the grid than the back!) with the same engine & tyres and ask what settings they use - most people will be happy to give you the basic information. |

Lots of different Lotus models were called 69s: the space-frame 1970 F2 cars, the 1971 monocoque F2 car, the 1971 spaceframe Formula B car, the 1971 spaceframe F3 car and even the Formula Ford.
Is it a spaceframe or a monocoque? Can you tell us any history and then we may be able to narrow it down. Who ran it in Atlantic? |
