The IRL becomes SAFER

Quote:
Milwaukee Mile officials announced this Tuesday that the facility plans to add the SAFER "soft" walls in time for the July 23 IndyCar Series race at the 1-mile oval. The announcement means that, for the first time in its history, all IRL oval races will be contested at venues equipped with the SAFER barriers.

Safety should be, and is, the #1 priority.
Industry-wide.

Story.

You can't SAFER-barrier a street course, though.

and they tire-barrier places where cars are reasonably expected to crash with any sort of speed.

And if I remember correctly, tire barriers attenuate force better than the safer barrier, they just don't use tires on ovals because they make a mess and cars get stuck in them. (remember they did use tire barriers at motegi).

It's good to see that the tracks are still being improved upon even with everything else going on with the sport. The saftey of the drivers is all important. Their what makes the sport great in the first place, and its always sad when they have to sit out the season because of a severe injury kind of like Bruno Janquiera did after the 500.
