Nunn Out Of Cart?

As reported by ESPN....

INDIANAPOLIS -- Still unsure whether it will remain with CART, Mo Nunn Racing will add a second driver for its Indy Racing League team next season.

Team manager Peter Parrott said Wednesday no decision has been made whether to compete in both series again or to jump entirely to the IRL, which has lured a number of CART teams the past two years.

Parrott said there was no timetable for a decision.

"I couldn't even tell you. I'm not so certain that they know their full program yet within CART, so until that is resolved, then I couldn't say what we're doing,'' he said. "All I know is that we're definitely going to two cars in the IRL and that's what we'll be focusing on at this point in time.''

A second driver and sponsor will be announced early next month, team owner Mo Nunn said.

"Based on our performance in 2002, we have great confidence that both of our cars will be in the thick of the championship hunt in '03,'' Nunn said.

For a forum that is constantly complaining about the influx of CART forum members discussing the IRL and dragging their CART sentiments onto this board, I find the title of this thread a little unusual. Surely a more appropriate (and positive) one would be "Nunn commits 2 cars to IRL".

This title is a CART topic.

I think the title relates nicely to the first line of the body.I suppose you think it was a shot at CART.

Sorry, but Nunn won't be leaving the CART World Series. It is well known that he already has one car all but confirmed, and the second car is based on sponsorhip.

The only reason most teams are leaving CART is due to Honda and Toyota waving big, fat wads of money in front of them. You think they're going for any other reason???

No I don't think it was a shot at CART.

I merely think that in the current climate it is out of place in an IRL forum.

I understand your position.

f1manoz:
If you look a little deeper, the bigger question is why Honda & Toyota left CART?..NOT WHY EVERYONE ELSE FOLLOWED THEM.All roads lead to Indy ,the mecca of open wheel racing.

Honda and Toyota went to the IRL, as you say, because of the Indy 500. Or, more accurately, because of the marketing kudos they would get for winning the Indy 500. Not for any love of the actual race itself.

I agree with mac on this one, this post is about the two-car Nunn IRL effort, which isn't a surprise. My feeling is that there will be a CART entry, and nothing in this makes me doubt that. Its the ESPN reporter casting doubt on that.

Oh and the 'waiting patiently for a reply' was rather unneccessary, you only gave us 37 minutes to reply, at a comparative dead-time as well.

Geez...I don't even like the IRL and I wish you guys would talk about that.

If you want to bash the Cart at least have the balls to come over to the Cart forum.

As I understand it, Nunn has committed two cars to IRL. There's an "if come" on a car in CART if Ford gets involved and Pioneer USA convinces Pioneer Japan that its involvement with sponsoring a car should continue because of its relationship with Ford. If so, that'd be a one-car Nunn effort in CART.
