Average Qualif Positions after Spain
Friday and Saturday average qualif positions (as Wrex "ordered" ). First column is average corrected by dropping the best and the worst position of each driver. Second column is the simple average.
Code:
---------------------------- Friday ---------------------------- Barrichello 2 2 M.Schumacher 2 2.4 Raikkonen 5 5 Button 6.67 9 Coulthard 6.67 6.6 Villeneuve 8.67 8.8 Panis 8.67 9.2 Trulli 9 9 Webber 9 8.8 Montoya 9.33 9.6 Alonso 9.67 9.8 daMatta 11 11 Frentzen 11 11.4 R.Schumacher 12.33 11.2 Fisichella 13.33 13.2 Heidfeld 14 13.2 Pizzonia 15.67 15 Firman 17.33 17.4 Verstappen 18.33 17.8 Wilson 19.67 19.6 ---------------------------- ---------------------------- Saturday ---------------------------- M.Schumacher 1.67 2.6 Barrichello 2.33 2.6 Alonso 7 6.4 Montoya 7 6.6 Trulli 7 7.8 R.Schumacher 7.33 8.2 Coulthard 7.67 7.4 Button 8.67 8.4 Panis 8.67 9.2 Raikkonen 9.33 10.4 Villeneuve 10 9.8 Heidfeld 10 10 Webber 10.33 10 Frentzen 12.33 11 daMatta 14 14.2 Fisichella 14.67 13.8 Pizzonia 16 16.2 Firman 17.33 17.4 Wilson 18.67 18.8 Verstappen 19.33 19.2 ---------------------------- Using Friday data: Code:
Tema mates diff: MS = RB 0 JT = FA 0.67 JVR >= JW 1.33 KR >= DC 1.67 JB >= JVL 2 OP >= CM 2.33 JPM >= RS 3 HHF >= NF 3 GF > RF 4 MW >> AP 6.67 Teams total Ferrari 4 McLaren 11.67 BAR 15.33 Renault 18.67 Toyota 19.67 Williams 21.67 Jaguar 24.67 Sauber 25 Jordan 31 Minardi 38 I think Friday data is not representing the real pace of cars as accurately as past year's qualifying sessions (and neither Saturday's does it). In fact Friday's Q is not extremely important to achieve a grid position. But at least in Friday we could expect no different "strategies" about fuel amount. I cannot believe BAR is the third quicker car , but appart from that, the order is not so surprising (except IMO Renault maybe is quicker than showed here) |

Wow. BAR has been jiggling along on fridays... Maybe that's why JV is SO frustrated ?_? He knows if only he could finish he'd be getting some regular points because the car's got it in it.
Very interesting and somewhat relevant data. When you compare it to actual points standings, it's surprising. Nifty. Cheers Schummy! |

That makes pretty sobering reading for Williams, they wouldn't've expected to be this far behind. Either the BAR is especially good on low fuel, or they have some amazing potential once the reliability problems JV has had are fixed. Jos will be embarassed to be slower than Wilson overall.

Cheers mate, great work
But (there is always a but) what I was after was something I think was done at Forix. It went something like this: Driver name - average qualifying time - % from pole M. Schumacher 1:27.123 0.000% R. Bariichello 1:27.923 0.009% etc etc etc Average calculated buy adding all Friday times together and dividing them by number of races. And same for Sat. Cheers mate - keep up the good work. |

Great stuff again. There is less difference between some of the team mates than I thought.

Yep the BAR is quick...JV just needs his reliability!
Thx Schummy! |

Doesn't it seem sad that drivers like Fisichella, Coultard, Barrichello, and Ralf all have secure seats in F1, despite having had race winning cars for many more seasons than Jacques, yet failing to chalk up as many wins as he (let alone a WDC) that it is Jacques who doesn't have a drive in F1??? Sad indeed. |

I think last year or two years ago I put here average qualif dif times from pole. But with this new format, and with "many" people doing more or less average diffs, I currently prefer this average position thing
But one never knows when one is "boring with numbers", maybe I do it someday |

With Jacques changing tactics to get better Saturday times the BAR picture might change a little. Don't know what he's going to do about the Friday situation...
